am surprised that SIA will use MI A320/738 for its 930amflight to Bali. If there's a choice, am sure most will take the 333s than the rather cramped MI.

MI is operating the early morning 0650 flight to DPS. Not the 0930

Finally bothered to calculate the reason for this new MI flight. The reality is that even though they are adding the MI flight, in overall terms, DPS sees a slight capacity reduction in Y, although a slight increase in J.

The SR* series 772s they have been using for the last couple of years on DPS flights have 293 Y seats, totalling 1172 Y seats per day. The A330s they are switching over to have 255 Y seats, totalling 1020 Y seats per day, a shortfall of 152. An MI A320 will reduce the shortfall to 26, but still represents a net shortfall.

In J the story is a little different whereby the B772 and the A333 have the same number of seats, so the extra 16 MI J seats are additional. Obviously the actual "product" being compared here is significantly different.

All of this of course is a different equation to the yield of adding a 5th flight and vastly improving the cabin product, but in raw seat terms, it shows why they need that extra flight if they want to welcome a similar number of passengers.
