  • A380, unable to select upper deck economy seats online?

    Hi,

We are having a trip to Paris in late November, booked the tickets thru SIA website, when selecting seats, I noticed I am only allowed to select seats in main deck while my kid prefers upper deck, he took A380 to Shanghai few months ago, that time I was able to select upper deck seat for him.

Is seatmap of A380 to Paris different from the one to Shanghai? Ie, no more enconomy seats in upper deck, or the upper deck economy seats are held and will be released later?

In main deck I also noticed seats in the back part of cabin are all taken, only seats in front/middle parts are available. Are these seats really taken by individuals or reserved by travel agency? Will they be released too?

From your experience, which seat is recommanded? It is a long trip, I am trying to make the kid comfortable.

    Thanks

SQ has two A380 configurations, one has a all business class upper deck which is most likely used on the SIN-CDG route.

Normally when booking online, only certain seats will be available for selection. However when performing online check-in, the previously blocked seats will then be available for selection. Not sure of the rational for this though.

          Sethor is correct.

CDG has gone through phases of All Upper Business and Upper Economy.

When I flew SQ333 in March it was using the craft with an Upper Economy cabin, but around May it swapped over with Zürich and now Paris has the all upper Business series for almost all flights.

With regard to the rear cabin being blocked out, yeah it's really annoying! SQ seem to do this on most flights to allow groups to be seated together at short notice. It's standard practice unfortunately, however, when you do online check-in, they will generally become available.

Until then, just try to pick two seats that suit you and you can put up with in case nothing else frees up for online check-in. Maybe A/B or J/K so the young one is happy? I've tried a few strategies with the A380 (I'm always a solo traveller in an 'A' window seat) but so much depends on the luck of who is sitting nearby. The best seats can be ruined by a screaming brat anywhere in the same cabin section. Sound really travels in the A380 cabin in my opinion.

Definitely keep away from toilets as the ratio in an A380 is not so good and long queues form around them. Also avoid the last row in any cabin section- the recline is quite limited and when the row in front happily swing theirs back to full tilt, it feels very pinched.

Thanks for the great info and suggestions, appreciated.

Yes I now selected the row near gallery, the second last row in middle cabin, I will try my luck when I checkin online.

            Thanks.

YOu can also give them a call. They can over-ride the blocked out areas and issue you a few seats. I've done that a few times before.
