  • Singapore Airlines - Title Sponsor of the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix

SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines announced today (April 15) that the local carrier has signed on as title sponsor of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, which will be held at the Marina Bay Street circuit from Sept 19 to 21.

The title sponsorship deal is for two years, with an option to renew after. The sponsorship cost is currently unknown.

I think this is fantastic development. Was always a bit jealous of seeing all of the other ME based airlines sponsor F1 so having SIA sponsor this is great news

But from a marketing perspective, I cannot distinguish any clear message SIA is trying to send out through sponsoring the F1 race. SIA does not fly significantly faster than its competitors...

While not every F1 fan will agree with me but I've always considered the Singapore GP to be one of the more prestigious venues in the calendar, almost like Asia's version of Monaco. Obviously this does not mean the races are actually more exciting here or that the venue has any significant history (even within Asia, that would go to Australia/Japan) but Singapore, along with Monaco and Abu Dhabi has a 'spectacular' feel do it.

I think it is more the premium feel with the event - this is what SQ wants to be associated with.

Then why not make it the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines British Grand Prix and 2014 Formula 1 xxx Singapore Grand Prix? Spend similar amount of money and get the country's name mentioned not only twice, but during two races instead of one.

I'm hoping that they do the same as Qantas as the Australian Grand Prix with a flyover. Unfortunately though I think the cost cutting at QF meant we only got a 737 this year rather than a 747 or A380.

SQ offering packages for the Grand Prix. I am told there has been quite a response to the news they are sponsoring it, with requests from those never satisfied QPP's and TPP's about what they can get.

There is a link to click on to see all the packages, which I haven't gone through yet.

                    Dear Mr MAN Flyer,

                    All-Inclusive F1® Packages

Packages include airfare, 4D3N accommodation and race tickets.

Extensions are possible but must cover 19-22 Sept 2014.

                        SIA sponsor

I guess as long as you are a government linked company you'll need to contribute to sponsoring events which bring national pride.
