  • Any difference for air ticket booking thru travel agent?

    Hi all,

I have question. I have recently booked a travel package from a travel agent taking SQ 600 from Singapore to Korea .As it is only a 4 day trip package. I was intending to do an extension but however was told by my travel agent that I need to pay SGS 250 just to change the tickets.

As I check on SQ website, to change literary is only USD20. I was wondering whether I can change it myself directly with SQ or must I do it with the travel agent?

can someone pls help answer my queries? Seems like travel agent not very willing to extend my stay and tried to overcharge on the extension .

The ticket now is under the "control" of the Travel agent. Not SQ.

Any changes now will require you to go through a travel agent. The fee of SGD250 that they are trying to charge you MAY consist of

    1) Their service fee
    2) A fare difference. The quote you see of SGD 20 on the website for your ticket is the change fee only, which is added to any fare difference if any as travel has not commenced yet. This is called a reprice, and there well may be a fare difference.

    I suspect it's a combination of BOTH.

If you still want to do it, wait till you have flown the outbound sector. When you have done that, "control" of the ticket passes over to SQ, and changes then should be repriced to the historical fare on the day of booking (subject to availability). It is risky, as there is no guarantee of availability, but if there is, it should be a straightforward revalidation directly with SQ, not a reissue, with just the 20 USD fee.

I guess it depends on the ticket class the agent booked you on? If you are on a package group tour, chances are it will falls under the highly restrictive 'G' with many conditions...

Didn't want to create a new thread, so thought I'd try my luck to post here as it a TA related ticketing query.

I understand to upgrade the fare, we need to book in upgradeable bucket.

Now, what if, on the final sector back to SIN, I book a J redemption outright? System will show as a double booking I presume because of the TA Y class ticket & my own J class ticket. Is there anyway to override this and take the J cabin instead without being offloaded?

Yes, it will be shown as a duplicate booking. You can't hold two seats on the same flight, regardless of class.

Is there a reason why you can't cancel the Y ticket?

I have duplicate bookings with separate PNRs on J and Y and they haven't auto-cancelled for more than a month already.

From past experience, someone from SQ will call to sort out these duplicate bookings.

Clearly to me, they don't simply auto-cancel, or showing any error if booked on separate PNRs.

Well, its a Travel Agent fare as part of a package tour. And I can't cancel outright because there is a domestic leg on the inbound before connecting to the SQ flight home.

J saver is not available for now.. Waitlist only.

I once had a very similar dilemma, although slightly different from reasons I won't go into. My experience was very similar - they *should* have auto-cancelled (I had my Chinese name in there as well, so it would be pretty obvious), but they didn't. Since then I've noticed this on SQ, and also TG. Good to know someone will call and sort things out.

Some airlines are more proactive in cancelling duplicate booking than others - it's quite a draconian step so I can understand why SQ might be more reticent than some of the others such as AC that I've seen automatic cancellations due to suspected duplicates. And they don't always get it right either!

Ok, so there is hope! Now if I can just get the WL to clear. And hope SQ will call to confirm before auto cancelling. Or I'm so dead!

Instead of waiting for them to call, why not call SQ instead?

If it is still on a waitlist, it is not considered duplicate booking.

Duplicate booking is when both are confirmed.

Btw, I still have my duplicate bookings untouched for 20 April in J and Y.
