  • SQ 227/228 aircraft change

Does anyone know why A333 is now used instead of A388? I hope it's not permanent since it's the only A388 flight between MEL and SIN.

No, just for the week as FSJZ's post indicates. This was planned well in advance.

SQ227/8 has swapped craft with SQ618/9 SIN-KIX-SIN as part of a few capacity increases to/from Japan. NRT has also had an upgauge to an A380 as well- not sure where that A380 was pulled from, possibly nowhere as frequently there are one or more A380s out of action for extended periods, so they can't have a shortage of them.

I'd say the only reason MEL was selected was because our new 4th daily flight has taken a lot of pressure off SQ228.

I'll leave it to someone else to explain why KIX and NRT needed the extra capacity this week because I haven't any idea!

This week is Japanese summer holiday and a lot of Japanese companies shutdown during this period. A lot of Japanese flying out of Japan for holiday.

Still have not realised why the departures and arrivals into MEL are 1 hour later from 5 October onwards. Is it some time zone change?

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm really glad the swap is only temporary. With 4 daily flights to MEL, I've been wondering about the loads, any info?

I almost always take SQ 227/8 flight, and about 2 weeks ago the load was pretty good, full on both Y and J, and 3 on suites.

As my name might suggest, I begin almost all my journeys out of Australia on SQ228

Late June I left on a Wednesday and the flight was fully booked, but that was before SQ208. I returned mid-July on SQ207 and expected the loading might be a little soft but it was around the 95% level. Not bad for such an early departure out of SIN. I'm glad I have a new option that can often slash my transit time in SIN.

Loads out of MEL are always great and MEL has always been a stella destination for SQ (despite all the aircraft swaps ), also MH has just announced today that from 21NOV, MEL will go x3 Daily - just proves that the MEL market will just continue to grow.

SQ228 has been operated with 77W/773 in the past 2 weeks on selected flights, is this scheduled?

Has anything happened to one of SQ's Whales?
