    • Completely random question - what is the conventional wisdom on an SQ order of the 777X?

My thoughts on this is that SQ currently does not have a need for the 777X as the A350-900s and 787-10s fill the role of long haul medium to high traffic routes. Perhaps we might see an order in the future once the 777X has entered service, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

But don't you think SQ bought too many aircraft of the same size with the A359 and the 78J? Yes, they would serve different routes, but don't they need a 773 sized aircraft? I don't believe SQ is allowed to convert any of the current 63 A350s on firm order to the larger variant. I believe only the 20 options they have can be converted to the -1000 unless I'm wrong.

Yeah it was quite an ambitious order at that time. I think the A350-900s and 787-10s are meant to replace the leased A330-300s and the aging 777-200, 777-200ER and 777-300.

The 787-10 is shorter than the 777-300, so unless SQ is thinking of cutting down on seats on some routes, they will have to consider the 777-9X or order more 777-300ERs, to replace the 777-300s. I'm leaning on the former, as the 777-9X would be in the final stages of development by then, and SQ would be convinced by its operating performance, as compared to the 777-300ER.

And yeah, I believe SQ has rights to 20 more A350-900s, which can be converted to the A350-1000. Perhaps that might be the replacement for the 777-300.

I reckon they will get rid of F on some of the routes and make up the space with other seats. It seems to be the way with a few airlines.

Some of 777-300s will be replaced by existing 777-300ERs. There will be some ERs released by some routes (eg BCN, GRU) being downsized to A359s. Other current 777-300 routes may just be recalibrated to A359s. The 777-300s should be all gone in another couple of years.

                • How long more will the 777-300ERs be around for? I'm guessing they should start leaving the fleet around the mid-2020s.

                  • do we actually know, which 380s have refurbished Suite-Seats (even though it Looks like it is only fresh leather)?

The oldest 77W is already 9 years old. I'd reckon about another 6-9 years?

                      • I wonder when is 9V-SNB starting to serve commercially, she has been running around PAE for flight tests (I supposed).

Am off to SFO on SQ2 on 15 Oct, 11C-D (yes, bulk head, mini First class section) hopefully will be served by brand new 9V-SNB.

Does anyone know if we can check what aircraft rego will serve a specific flight?

                        Cheers!

I think to do it with any kind of certainty more than a few hours prior, you'd have to know an SQ plane rosterer. Even then they are prone to last minute change.

Your best bet is icargo.net which brings up a dnata freight webpage where you can do a flight search by date. It will indicate which plane is scheduled to perform the flight, the gate and the incoming flight it is performing. You may get really lucky and get the info 8 or 9 hours prior.

Be warned though that it often changes and the site is slow to respond to the changed data and sometimes it even changes but doesn't update on there leading to confusing logic. But if you really can't wait until angling for a view of the landing gear door while in the gate lounge...

Amazing how many 77W still fly with the old First Class...

9V-SNB isn't scheduled for delivery until 16 October, although that can change a few days either way.

For SQ 2, you can see the specific frames that are likely a day ahead by consulting FlightRadar24 and asking for the aircraft performing SQ 318 to London and SQ 1 from San Francisco. The aircraft that will perform SQ 2 virtually always turns off SQ 1 arriving that morning, or off SQ 319 arriving that afternoon. Occasionally, however, SQ 2 will be covered by a frame coming out of maintenance. It's always performed by a 77WN.
