I think they were new regional J seats, and not those from existing aircraft.

The regional J seats are in all 773's. They got installed a number of years ago. Later 2 777's had the 2006 Y seats installed.

The only change in J in the 773's with 2006 Y seats is the 2006 IFE. The 773's with the really only Y seats has a really old IFE.

Appreciate if anyone can advise how to read the post below? I am trying to figure out how to translate from SQ flight no to the type of seating chart below. For example, I am looking at SQ635 which is a Boeing 777-300, SQ 633 Airbus 350-900 but how do I tell what seat models they are from this useful list below?

There is a thread on A.Net asking about SQ A343 routes and one of the posts mentioned the A343's cabin configuration:

Need a bit time digging for this, but the configuration was F10 J30 Y225
2-1-2 F class- 2 rows
2-2-2 J class- 5 rows
2-4-2 Y class- approximately 28 rows split between two cabins.

According to Bloomberg, SQ will be ordering the 777X and more 787s. The order could be announced this week.

That means that in the future, SQ will have 60 A350-900s, 7 A350-900ULR, 19 A380-800s, 20 Boeing 777-9X and 49 Boeing 787-10s, for a total of 155 in the fleet, up from 109 now.

My guesses:
A350-900: Medium density, medium/long range (similar to A330/777-200/777-200ER)
A350-900ULR: Low density, ultra long range
A380-800: Ultra high density, medium/long range
777-9X: High density, long range (similar to 777-300ER)
787-10: High density, medium range (similar to 777-300)

That would make sense. Nevertheless, it's great to see SQ choosing the 777-9X
