I think it varies from market to market, and some consolidators distort the market (there is a well known UK consolidator that sells below the agreed price, but only "out of hours", to help it reach certain volume rebates, so I only buy from them after about 2100, or on Sundays - you can often save £100 on a J ticket)

Back to the original question, for the last 5 years, I have always flown business class (or first) for long haul leisure, but I have never paid the published full fare - always on sale, through consolidator, ex-EU or whatever it takes to get a deal

May I ask then where do I source for good Business class fares on SQ ex-SIN ?

It seems to me that fares on SQ website are still the cheapest

Flying an airline out of its own hub will never score you the best price per mile.

You need to be more creative. :-)

        Hi everyone,

For leisure, I am open minded and will pay for J class if the price is right. I however will be unlikely to spend the money for F class as J class pretty much suits my needs.

Being Singapore based, I have never paid for SQ. If you want cheap SQ fares, hint hint. Think Repositioning.

Hmm I travel Y for Business and fly Business for Leisure If the company is too stingy at least I can spoil myself the 1-2 times a year I actually have a vacation. Mostly using miles though for C travel.

            http://www.thaiairways.com//offers/s...sin_master.htm

Thai Airways always have First/Business Class fares promotion. 50% cheaper than SQ.

Please can you share the site name? my family will be visiting later in the year so perhaps this may help me save a little

well, maybe if fares are reasonable. Definitely not on SQ where on some regional flights, fares are 4X more than economy and you get a marginally better old recliner.

so what is 'reasonable' to you? and when u mean more than '4x economy', do u mean Y/E fares? or those promo economy fares?

for me, i would look at D and J class fares. C and Z are ridiculous

Sorry kapitan, I jumped in this and got a nice price for SIN/LHR/SIN in J/F in July!

Once a year I will treat myself to biz on a 6-7 hr flight if I have not been able to get any econ-biz saver upgrade redemptions.

I have only ever paid once for J on a leisure flight from LHR - BNE when I knew it was going to be a long day at work that day. Otherwise I don't see the price difference worth it. Luckily for me a seat in Y gives me plenty of room.

I will regularly make the journey to LHR from MEL/ADE/PER for a few days before coming straight back and usually straight to the office when I land, and they have always been in Y class.

I, too would like to know where to source cheap(er) J/F fares, especially with SQ, which would provide me with elite miles. Any suggestions?

On SQ, Business fares are about 4 times the price of economy, which is rather ridiculous on short flight where Business in only marginally better then Y. Not that i will take business on SQ though. Prices are certainly too high!

                              20-27 june
                              from Singapore to Beijing: S$3899
                              from Jakarta to Beijing: S$3125

to London, from Singapore is S$8588, from Jakarta, its S$6493

is it due to the purchasing power theories?

It's point of sale pricing. Nothing more sinister than that. SIN is a captive market.
