  • SQ to GVA?

Heard from a colleague in Switzerland that SQ is planning direct flights to Geneva in May. Anybody heard anything? That route would make my life so much better....

It is announced on GVA's website that AirChina is flying non-stop there starting May. Perhaps your colleague mistakenly associated them with Singapore.

Doubt SQ is considering Geneve as the next station in Switzerland, TG was once operating the flight from Bangkok, aborted after a short period, with the current economic situation in Europe & high fuel cost, is very difficult to sustain the operating cost if load factor is low. I would vote for Berlin if SQ would consider having a new station in Europe.

IIRC SQ did serve Berlin for a few years in the 90s, but axed it due the financial crisis in 97-98. It would be interesting though if it returns there, and whether it substantially affects loads to FRA, MUC, or CPH.

EK serves GVA and they have probably soaked up a fair bit of the business from other parts of the world. If I wanted to head there, I'd fly into ZRH and then take an escalator downstairs to the rail station and jump on one of SBB's amazing inter-city first class carriages for the remaining sector, but then when I travel, time is not such a factor as for those on a business mission...

It will indeed be interesting to see how much the opening of the new BER changes the pattern of travel in/out of Europe. Berlin-Brandenburg will interface with the high speed rail network much better than MUC, even though MUC is itself a really pleasant airport and a lot easier to interchange at than FRA from my experience.

Tried that on him, but he is adamant that it was SQ and Singapore. Saw the same article about AirChina on the website.

My route is SIN-MUC with the LH connection to GVA. Can arrive for a 09:30 meeting most times, but it would be nice to cut out the connection. The worst part is having to come home via FRA. Really miss the old 777 night flight out of Zurich.

SQ did SXF-ZRH-SIN on a 744 in the 90ties. I took the flight once in 1997 IIRC and IFE in Y was like so above and beyond what we were used to flying on LH or UA that pretty much everyone on board was at awe. Ahh the good old days

Nope. They probably will not have the capacity for the route and SQ already has many European destiantions that you can connect from
