Well at least at the moment AKL doesn't seem to be alone.

FCO seems to have been downgraded to non-refitted 772ERs at the moment.

And still no sign of the rebirthed SVF- if it's been seen back in SQ livery, then maybe that's a sign it's becoming refit no. 10. Or maybe not...

    • Just a question... Saw an option on both MNL-SIN & SIN-MNL that shows as an 777-200er plus the J seats showing 1-2-1. These would be the refitted ones right?

Yep, they fly SQ912/919 every day. They have a lot of them available for short runs during the day inbetween overnight long-hauls.

          • Slightly off topic but does anyone know which B777's are slated for the new NokScoot operation?

I've read they're getting 3 ex SQ B772's to ops to start in the second half of this year so not too far away now.

I've been frequently trying to spot which 772s are headed out of the fleet by checking through flight records. So far every plane is being kept in rotation at least every second day, so I'd say we need inside info to know any better at this point. 9V-SVF is still yet to make an appearance in revenue service after it's return from the Royal Brunei leasing.

It could be SVF, SVH and SVK that make up the trio, or maybe SRF, SRH & SRJ. The early SR series have the worst interior cabin product, but they also have more seats and generally only fly 2-hour flights, so economically, SQ might keep them on DPS flights for economic reasons, maybe.

We've seen more craft join or return to the fleet so far this year than leave and no major increases in flights, so there should be room to move whenever they need to.

              • Do we have a list of planes which have been retrofitted?

All SV* series (772ER) have been refitted except for SVH, SVK and SVO, which still retain the purple interiors with SpaceBeds in J in 2-2-2 config. SVG was returned from Brunei and refitted before returning to SQ service. SVF has been seen as reported by others here as having returned from Brunei but nobody has reported what's happened to it since- refit or discard or move to Scoot- we don't know. SVO is leased by SQ and has often been tipped to be one that will leave the fleet sooner than later.

All remaining SQ* series have been refitted (SQI onward). The last non-refit was SQF which has now been withdrawn from service, destination unknown. It's very old and well-worn so some have suggested it may (have?) be scrapped.

The remaining SR* craft are SRF, SRH and SRJ onwards. I think SRM onwards is fully refitted, but I don't know much about the SR*s so somebody else will need to finish this off!

                    • Flying MNL-SIN-MNL on a 777-200ER in J (1-2-1 setup)... seems 11A/K are already occupied (but will recheck on the date of check-in)... currently selected 15A and 15K respectively (to and from)... is this the next best choice other than row 11? I wonder about the space, privacy, legroom, noise level, and window views... Thanks in advance!

                      • Flew SQ323 AMS-SIN dep AMS on 19 April on Business Class.

Got a call from SQ a day prior to advise that planned aircraft, a 777-300ER, had now been replaced with an old 777 with 2-2-2 Spacebeds.

It seems that the AMS sector will be stuck with these old planes for some months. I feel sorry for the AMS SQ sales staff who now have the thankless task of telling their customers those flat-bed seats that they were pitching will in fact not be on offer.

Anyway, they apologized to everyone on check-in and gave a choice of 20k kris miles or $200 vouchers.

Actually, it was not bad sitting in those retro seats, complete with chipped edges and scratches from a well seasoned past, and I was able to sleep quite a few hours after remembering the Spacebed recline tricks. Ended up taking the vouchers and getting some gifts for my family.

                        • Actually the change of aircraft to old B772ER (Spacebed equipped) on 19 APR 2014 was a one time thing due to operational reason.

AMS is still permanently served with the retrofitted B772ER with Diamond Seats (current Business Class).

However, the 77W operations to AMS will stop after 29 May 2014.
AMS will be all retrofitted B772ER (everyday) again after that date.

Currently, TPPS travelling on the 77W in Business Class on AMS flights are upgraded to First Class seats (Business Class service) as they are selling the 77W as two class service (Business and Economy).

                          • Oh, this is good to know.

I only wrote what I heard the SQ staff at the airport lamenting to me about the change in aircraft …. I must have misinterpreted the information.

I'm not surprised they are lamenting though. Three times now, AMS has gone through the upgrade to 77W only to have it pulled back off the route. We as travellers find it annoying, but as you say, imagine having to speak with all those passengers on every flight, everytime it reverts 'permanently' back to 772ER, albeit refitted ones now. These are the people who have to deal with the disappointed passengers who booked on a 77W. The call centre may have done all the ground work shifting the seat allocations about, but many people prefer complaining in person when finally given the chance. I think the AMS staff deserve some big hugs!

                              • Provided that it's replaced with a refitted 772ER, is there much to lament about? I suppose the IFE is different, but otherwise it's a pretty comparable product, no?
