No wonder travel agent business in Yangon is booming -- everyone wants a piece of big pie.

Just been looking at flights to RGN at the tail end of the year and it appears they are switching to A330's on the route.

I was hoping to get 77Ws to SIN-RGN (or SIN-YGN). A330s are not bad too. I just came back from Yangon with 777-200 (SQ 997/998) in J. Super packed, full load in J.

Contract lounge in Yangon Int'l Airport is called "Jade Lounge". Light snacks available with about 25 sofa seats, Wi-Fi Internet, newspapers. They also use this lounge as designated Star Alliance Lounge (as ANA also flies to Yangon).

But no *G access. If you are *G but flying in economy then no lounge access.

One of the reasons why I nearly always fly Bangkok airways now as a premier I get lounge access and fast track at Bangkok

I've confirmed with the Lounge Attendant; he said "Sir, earlier flight cannot, because it's SilkAir. With this card, only later morning flight (referring to SQ998), you can access lounge."

My take is, SilkAir flight will only permit TPP/QPP and EG to use the lounge. But if you're flying later flight, any Star Alliance Gold will be able to use the lounge.

Then SQ are better than TG. TG give no lounge access to *G at RGN. Maybe they will start to now that SQ are doing so and also Bangkok Airways have started to give lounge access to their premier level members

A classic example of the stupidity and annoyance of the SQ/MI 'split'.

Haha exactly -- either case, if you're in J, shouldn't have an issue with lounge access.

And I just realized that SQ997/998 SIN-RGN-SIN is now B777-200ER retrofitted bird (2-2-2, same as A330 space beds). I guess since Myanmar is getting media attention, SQ also wants to impressive international travelers. Imagine you're taking SQ to Yangon, and it's an old B777-200 with terrible J seats (2-3-2); bad impression on the airline!

On this flight, Planes are still a mix of un-retrofitted 772/772ER, which means a old spacebed( not the new regional J) and the old recliners. those in 2-3-2 config. At least all aircraft are AVOD even though they are not retrofitted.
