What's the consensus on fair compensation for a broken seat recline in business on a 3.5 hour flight? SQ offered a $100 Krisshop voucher - I'm inclined to tell them to stuff it where the sun don't shine.

Broken seat recline compensation

Hm, I got a SGD150 Krisshop voucher for six hours in J without IFE. Was offered that during the flight and didn't argue. I would argue a working seat is more important and wouldn't be impressed with the offer you got. A quarter of the fare paid maybe?Originally posted by Savage25 View PostWhat's the consensus on fair compensation for a broken seat recline in business on a 3.5 hour flight? Seems light on to me. You could go over the top and estimate a breakdown of what your ticket pays for. If there's no recline you may as well be in economy really. Yes you get champagne etc, but for 3.5hrs I would argue that does not add that much value. Sitting prone and not being able to recline is a pain, and in terms of the physical issue, it would have been no different to economy.Originally posted by Savage25 View PostWhat's the consensus on fair compensation for a broken seat recline in business on a 3.5 hour flight? Personally I would ask for a full refund of the difference between business and economy. In terms of seat comfort, if it doesn't recline, it is pretty much economy (yes you have extra legroom.. but the extra isn't really used unless you are reclining and putting your legs up). The better food, drinks and service can be considered compensation for the fact you weren't given the product you wanted.Summer holiday plans: Asia 09

Mine didnt work on old SYF plane. I complained.Originally posted by jbflyer View PostFor my flight FRA->SIN flight in Y this May, all IFEs were off due to power supply issue.
We got a SQ foldable travel bag after arrived to Changi airport.
They gave me 5,000 miles (just got it today) - added in under the category " Service Recovery"
I prefer 5,000 miles to USD50 any time or worse , an SQ bag.

Hmm 3.5hrs - fancy to guess it was MNLOriginally posted by Savage25 View PostWhat's the consensus on fair compensation for a broken seat recline in business on a 3.5 hour flight? SQ offered a $100 Krisshop voucher - I'm inclined to tell them to stuff it where the sun don't shine.
I had to fly in Y two weeks ago - not fair

Back to the topic, I also think it is a bit light. I would tell them to forget about it as the offer is borderline insulting to you. Can try to ask for a nice chunk of KF miles, e.g. amount to upgrade Y to C one way in SE Asia (MNL, BKK).

That's what I did - asked for 15K miles instead as a Y to C upgrade from MNL. Lets see what they say.Originally posted by demue View PostHmm 3.5hrs - fancy to guess it was MNL

Just remember that I got 5,000 miles for a broken IFE in Y, which I think is their standard for service recovery. Let's see if they can go 1 step further and offer more for your much more serious case.Originally posted by Savage25 View PostThat's what I did - asked for 15K miles instead as a Y to C upgrade from MNL. Otherwise, then what's the point of flying J when you are not treated any better than in Y.
