Completely untrue! You can see it nicely from both sides of the border.

Depends on how much time you have. The drive is long. May make more sense to fly to Buffalo and rent a car from there to visit Niagara Falls. The drive from Buffalo to Boston is even longer. So again another flight might be helpful.....though as a another poster mentioned, you can have scenic drive through Toronto, Montreal, and New Hampshire/Vermont.

Having just done this twice in 5 months (!)...

...I'd recommend at least two nights at Niagara Falls on the Canada side so as not to rush things, and to do it properly, a night on the American side where it's far less commercialised and also very nice with the Cave of the Winds. Anyway the Maid of the Mist has started early this year and it's also doable from the American side where you get maybe 80% of the photographic opportunities. For the full-blown majestic effect, you really have to do the cliffwalk on the Canadian side.

I flew from NYC-BUF as I didn't want that long a drive, and also considered the BOS-BUF options but it just didn't make sense to do it on my schedule. Would've loved to pop into Ben & Jerry's on the way up in Vermont, actually. Still on the to-do list.

The Sheraton On The Falls was great - very nice room, you certainly want to confirm the view so I paid full price / didn't count on a Plat upgrade. Embassy Suites has also very nice views of the Horseshoe Falls and there's a very popular Keg steakhouse which you want to reserve before going for sure.

Driving from NYC-BUF-BOS just sounds like it'll take too long and a tiny bit painful to me, (and I don't mind driving).

Lastly, I think there'a already a Niagara thread somewhere which I think some of these posts need to be tacked on to.

For hotels, stay at the Embassy Suites or Sheraton by the Falls and request for a falls view.

2 days is enough. Just join a tour that covers the falls, Maid of the Mist tour, and a cable car tour. Leave the car at the hotel.

But while you're at it, from Niagara Falls, drive to Toronto (Chinatown, CN Tower, etc) , and then to Montreal (speak some French, have some Montreal favourite foods like smoked meat and bagels) and then cross over to Boston from there. More to see and do than the american side !
I totally agree. The Canadian side is definitely preferred to the US side. Lot more activities, shopping, restaurants, hotels, and above all much better views of the falls. (I had great views from the Sheraton some years back).

Plus, the drive to Toronto is also less than the drive to NYC (I'm pretty sure, but don't remember the exact time it took for me).

The drive from Niagara Falls to Toronto is 1 hour 45 mins to 2 hours 15 mins, depending on your speed

2 nights in Niagara Falls,....no time for Toronto. I also not happy that I can only allocate 3 nights in New York...I sense it is not enough. Looks like I got to allocate a extra night or 2 before I leave JFK.

I also realised that JFK airport is actually VERY far from Manhattan. What is the best and "safe" way to the hotel with baggage besides taxi?

JFK is not *VERY* far from Manhattan - it just depends on your luck with the traffic.

Although I guess, *VERY* is open to interpretation. Is Suvarnabhumi *VERY* far from BKK? KLIA to KUL? We somehow managed to get from Grand Central to JFK in 55 minutes around 6pm previously which is during peak hour, but on the way in it took us an hour 30 minutes. Local hotel concierges recommend 2 hours, so your mileage may vary

We tried to rush Niagara the second time around by spending one night in Toronto and one night in Niagara (Ontario). Wasn't nearly enough time and we had already seen Niagara back in January from the American side. I'd have liked an extra night, actually.

I made that comment based on the fact that JFK is like the default NYC airport (1). Newerk (3) is in New Jersey so, a little out of the way....LaGuardian (2) is "less popular" from JFK, SIA don't fly to this airport.

Then I look at the map and I discovered that JFK is the furthest airport from Manhattan. All along I thought JFK is the nearest being in New York and SIA flys there.

Hey, can you tell me what mode of transport you took from JFK-> Manhattan and return as well? Thanks in advance.

Had a private contact who took us around in a Lincoln towncar/limo sorta... not bad, $65-ish

Audio, the easiest way is thru a cab or a "limo", and I would recommend it especially if you have luggage and it's your first time to NYC. If however, you're adventurous, have time or on a budget (like my son), you can take the train. The latter will require you to change train (instructions) and will bring you to Penn Station which is right smack in mid-town. From there you'll find a few cab lines to catch one to your hotel.

                        Thanks guys for your tips.

I am more receptive towards taking a cab now. After all, after all the train change and all, you end up at Penn Station, you still need to take a cab to your hotel.

Traffic and roads vary everywhere in the world. Just because a map shows an airport being close or far doesn't always mean it will take you shorter or longer to transit to/from it. JFK is one of the biggest pains in NYC (EWR is the most hassle free). That said, it has the most amount of flights/options.

It costs SGD$12,000 to fly into Newerk from Singapore as opposed to SGD$3,000 to fly into JFK.

                              There is simply no choice.
