I just took the flight a couple of days ago, and they are using the SQ-series planes, which have 3 classes, but they only actually use the J class and Y class cabins.
Well someone was asking whether F was being sold on BKK flights, how can you not see the point? The OP had seen a seatmap with F on BKK and was querying it.
F is not up for sale as you say, but the seats are definitely open on some flights. I'm in 1A for a flight in a few months.
Possible the normal J class seats are fully booked, & they open the first class seats but you will be served J class service.
Similar to what I took on SQ 981 few months back where they use the old B777-300 (3 class), I was at 1D, but J class service. Rows 11-18 J class seats will be occupied by passengers but will be Economy Service.

If the cabin is not open for sale, then prepared to be bumped down to your normal J seat at check in or at the gate. SQ will close the F section off and there will not be crew operating that cabin. They will be there for take off and landing only.
It is very rare that SQ will let you sit in the F seat (even though catering is J) if you have not paid it as an F fare.

I am afraid that's not true. While that may well happen it is definitely not certain, as I had a JCL ticket and booked to sit in F for a BNE-SIN flight operated by a 777 a few months ago, which they were going to give me before I jumped on the earlier A330 flight as I got to BNE in time to to check in for the earlier flight.

How does one select the F seats? Can't seem to do so when booking. It just gives me the J part of the 3 class bird.
