I was walking through London last week, which was a novelty in itself after the last few months, and heard an aircraft overhead (another novelty!) that sounded familiar and not like the usually quieter 350's and 787's that are doing most of the flying these days. It made me look up and to my surprise it was a 747. Not only that an SQ one!!. I cannot remember the last time I saw an SQ 747 flying over London. Yes it was a cargo aircraft but a nice surprise all the same. I think it came from Sharjah?
The poignancy of this was brought home the following day when BA sadly announced they were grounding their entire 744 fleet with immediate effect the following day. At least SQ managed to arrange these fabulous SQ747/748 flights to HKG and back to give her a great send off. It looks like BA may well not even manage anything like that.
I am beginning to think my JFK-MAN flight on a VS 744 in October may be my last flight on the old girl.
