  • Bye Bye RTW Fares in F

Per post on FT, and seemingly confirmed on EF: effective 15 January 2012, all the SQ-only F RTW fares are withdrawn.

This change appears to affect FEZSQ fares ex-North America and Europe, and AEZSQ fares ex-SIN.

    Sigh.....................

Apologies for my ignorance, as I know nuts about RTW and fare structures ... but effectively how much more will RTW F now cost? Sigh... I was planning to do this with my wifey in a couple of years.

Does this mean that these tickets must be purchased by January 15th or that travel must be completed by then?

Yep, that's it! I am switching to LH/LX. or EK.

Ok... Not really but y'know. not a happy day.

I called SQ in the US a few days ago and they said FEZSQ wasn't available anymore (without even asking what dates I was traveling). Would be interested if anyone finds out otherwise.

I think the only way to fly SQ in a RTW will be via a star alliance RTW - which I think is a lot more (as in more than 2.5x).

I think you're right. Last time I looked, the Star Alliance FRTWSTAR1 costs US$17,451 base ex-USA (before taxes). OneWorld is a bit better, at US $13,800 ex-USA before taxes, and AF (the only Skyteam member with F ex-North America) wants US $13,984 before taxes for an FRTWSKY3.

Canadian departures, at least for *A and OneWorld, are about the same, in Canadian dollars: CAD 18,437 for *A, and CAD 13,800 for OneWorld. Skyteam wants CAD 17,436 from Vancouver, probably because AF doesn't fly there directly.

It is possible to piece together two half-round trips over an intermediate point such as Delhi -- in other words, using a "one-way" from North America to India, then continuing from India back to North America -- for less than any of the cumbersome alliance F RTW fares -- but it ain't no US $6700 base fare bargain, that's for sure.
