  • A380 seating question

Hello, I found this site while trying to get details of where to sit on our first Singapore Airline flight.
Everyone had recommended SIA and the prices were excellent, although that was booking 11 months in advance!
LHR_SIN_SYD and return, all on A380.
We are an 'older' couple and considered this to be our trip of a lifetime, so we booked the preferred seats, figuring it was as close to business as we were likely to ever get!!
We booked 71H and K for all legs, only to get told after 8 months that the upper deck on SIN_LHR leg was to be all business.
They refunded our preferred seat money for that leg and we thought that was it, however, on checking weeks later, it showed the upper deck to be available again. So I moved our seats again to upstairs but not preferred this time, 73 H and K.
Feel really annoyed that they didn't even let us know the configuration had been changed back, as they were the ones changing things all the time.

Anyway, what are the thoughts on our choice of seats, row 71H and K? Would 81 be a better row? Does the armrest move between the two seats? Do the FA let you have a case on the floor as a footrest?

    Any other tips welcome!

Sorry about the long post, guess I just wanted to put it all on paper!!

    Cheers P

    Welcome to SQTalk, tripper.

As your post is mainly a question about seats on the A380, we will move it to the main board in the hope someone can answer it there.

      Hi,

if you want to sit on the upper deck, you could switch your flight to SQ317 (and SQ322 for the return) - which will remain the "standard" configuration (on current information).

Personally I prefer 71ACHK to 81 ACHK as I feel that 71 is more private (and has significantly less human traffic). This is because it's nearly a full seat-row ahead of the corresponding middle block, and sheltered from the rest of the cabin. The washrooms near the seats are for Business class passengers so it will not generally affect you.

Armrests in all emergency row exit seats and the centre block of row 80 seats are non-movable.

I have not seen anyone being told to remove anything they use as a "footrest" during flights except in the event of serious turbulence.

Note though that it's quite difficult (next to impossible) to rest your head on the cabin walls in the upper deck to sleep. Personally, I prefer to be able to do this.

        Many thanks Kelvgoh!

I have changed our seats again, back to row 71.
The poor website will be blowing a fuse, I keep checking and changing!
Your reply has answered all my questions, again, many thanks.

Yes, Tripper, I think you'll enjoy those seats as they give much better leg room. I have used them once for a holiday with my wife. The only inconvenience is the inflight entertainment system, which needs to be swung up from underneath when you need it.

          Enjoy your holiday!

Just back from London this morning and the weather was perfect there (with a couple of days of patchy rain) but in two weeks, it should be as perfect as much as England can be perfect!
