  • SQ's choice of IFE... nudity or not?

I know SQ censors their IFE programmes according to Singapore standards based on PG ratings. But that's based on films.

I think SQ forgot to adhere the same censorship to its TV programme cos on the programme "Game of Thrones", full nudity is shown , breasts and 'sexual acts' etc !!

I don't think so. I have watched some IFE films on SQ that I would classify under Singapore's R21 rating. One example is Sex in the City 2 where there was even a full frontal male scene. At the start of the movie, they do issue a warning.

I do hope that they will continue this policy of not censoring films. If they have to censor, then please don't bother to show it. And if one is prudish, don't watch it, there are so many other choices to watch from.

That's more the issue, in another way.

I was watching something last week, I think on the way to HK and I'm struggling to remember what, when there was some sex scene. Whilst it didn't get up to the R21 level it was definitely a PG or R15 and my thought at the time was....... are there kids at my rear 3/4?

What's fine for me, may not be so fine for other passengers hence the very wide choice of programs. I suppose it will be my job, as a parent, when flying with my kids to make sure they have a window seat and can see Cars2 very clearly!

Ok.. I do remember that they censored all the gay bits in "Brokeback Mountain" though... and even recently, any gay themed scenes have been chopped out !

So in other words.. show the blood , gore and decapitation...

Show the nude sex scenes... in hetrosexual themes..

But cut out 2 men kissing !

I know what you mean, Guy. Flew in this morning from NY, and since I had 18 hours of IFE access, I decided to watch Game of Thrones and Kick Ass. The former contained both very violent and sexual scenes, while the latter, which I initially thought was a G-rated comedy, turned out to contain quite a number of violent scenes and inferred "adult situations" (tame compared to GoT).

Yes, I agree with Scooby that having kids sitting next or behind you watching these shows is an issue. Perhaps airlines can consider using those privacy screen thingamajig to make sure it is only visible directly. I have heard some parents recommending giving kids cough mixtures to induce sleep!

Normally I like to add a little drop of scotch into the milk instead and the scotch can be got on board, not like trying to sneak cough medicine through security.

Please note that the IFE system is capable of blocking out the rated media if you got a child seated at a particular seat. Just let your friendly cabin crew know.

But that doesn't preclude instances of children peeking at your screen if they are seated next to or diagonally behind you.

You are right, these are the exceptions.....it cannot be help being in the aircraft environment unless you are flying A380 suites.

I believe the freedom of program choice outweighs small inconveniences of this nature......just like why stop serving satay just because someone have nuts allergy onboard.

And seriously, if you don't want to see 2 men kissing you should NEVER choose to watch "Brokeback Mountain" in the first place.

We had endured film censorship for several decades in Singapore already, let's not get back to the dark ages. We want to watch every film we choose in it's full entirety please.

                            Because you might kill somebody!

The key difference is any person with a nut allergy will not likely see or come into contact with said nut. Cabin crew could be made aware of the situation in advance also.

The same arrangement or precaution cannot be made for minors able to see a screen next to, or diagonally across from, where they sit.

Agreed. The satay thing is not a perfect analogy to use but I guess you get the point.
