  • Internet Check-In is useless

If you don't print your boarding pass during Internet Check-In, the airline will give away your seat to someone else if you arrive less than 40mins before flight departure. And, you will be put on waitlist for the next flight (not confirm seating)

Thus, imo, it's practically useless to perform Internet Check-In as there will be no difference between Internet Check-In and Normal Counter Check-In except that the former allows you to choose your seat prior to arrival at the airport.

I got into this situation during a return flight from Jakarta Airport when I arrived 35mins before flight departure and was told that my seat has been given away. My ticket was an economy class full fare ticket.

You realize 40 mins is the cut off time?

No point feeling angry about it. You might have valid reasons for being late, but there are rules to adhere by for ground services. Count yourself lucky as you are even allowed a check-in.

Morial of the story - this is not a perfect world. Don't take this for granted.

Count yourself lucky that SQ just put you on the next flight. Which was full and that was why you were on waitlist. If its another airline like say, LH, they will say, sorry, you basically no-showed your flight.. all your other reservations are cancelled, and you need to pay a change fee to change your reservation. SQ just put you on the next available flight.

It was YOUR FAULT for being late. The cut off time for check in is 40 mins. You came 35 mins before departure, and you had no boarding pass to begin with. EVEN if you had a BP, trying to clear immigration and security to run to the gate is very very dicey... and you'd most probably be denied boarding at .. worse, the gate.

Moral of the story... check in early and be at the airport at the specified cut off time. Welcome to SQ Talk.. but don't come here to complain about something that you will receive no sympathy.

That's the point of OLCI, you get to choose your seat before you get to the airport.

            Self-printed boarding passes online

You will not have to queue to check-in and collect your boarding passes. There will be designated counters you can go to endorse your boarding pass and check-in your bags.

Due to security requirements, we require that passengers proceed to designated counters to verify your boarding pass (obtain a stamp) and check-in your baggage

Well... I don't think my comments sound like a complaint.

All I want to highlight is that there is practically no difference doing an internet check-in vs a counter check-in.

              Cheers

I think you just want to highlight the fact that you can't and choose not see the advantages

The airline has every right to give your seat away. You chose to arrive for a flight at D-35 and as implied, it is considered a no-show and you probably have to pay the no-show penalty to be rebooked on another flight. It doesn't matter if yours is a full Y or F ticket, or that you are SQ CEO's father fort the matter.

Even if you have arrived in time and done OLCI, the airline still has the final say on seat placement if you have not have your boarding pass confirmed and seat selected. And this is not a dead confirmation for sure, things can still change due to ops requirement but by and large, the airline would accomodate any confirmed seating.

That said, it sounds like the issue you are taking offence with is being offloaded and not so much on the check-on process. The good folks who replied to you have no reason to think that you are insinuating a complain, but just trying to be helpful to make your travelling experience more pleasant.

yap, you still have to Q at teh counter to get you bag checked in if you have one. Sometime to Q is as long as those non-internet check in (Singapore airport case).

If the flight is over booked and you are late. Your seat is gone. Once my friend get charged for no show (also 25 min before departure) as they say there is no enough time for check in.

So if you are on those popular route, do check in early. Over book is quite common.

Simple matter. Just don't be late.

Even if you did check in at say, D-40 mins, and you dilly dally your way to the gate. At D-20 and you're not there, well, the plane will off load your bags and take off without you.

In the good ol'days, when security was not such a huge issue, one could still check-in at D-30 and the good people at the desk can still personally assist the pax to the aircraft. Happened to me twice, once on a US domestic flight when I actually had to push my check-in luggage all the way to aerobridge so that they can stuff it down below and the second time was in Sydney when a storm caused almost every pax to be late for the flight.

Very thankful to the ground staff in both cases but the run from the check-in counter to the aircraft nearly killed me. And walking in as the last pax was embarrassing to say the least.

These days, as every one said, if one is late for whatever, better start making alternate arrangements while on the way to the airport.

                          Good. Don't internet check-in then.

                            Sorry I must be thick.

I thought the idea of an internet check-in was that we could print our boarding passes, so that we could arrive at the airport just in time to get through security and to the gates? (handcarry only)

Or is there a totally different procedure in SIN?

                            I'm sorry but I'm confused.

e.g. 35 minutes before flight departure in the case of LHR T5. Miss that and you won't be let through security even if you're Internet checked-in.
