  • Drunk passenger jailed 16 months for bomb threat

My only minor objection is that my tax dollars are going to support this bum's meals for 16 months...

Drunk passenger jailed 16 months for bomb threat
    By Elena Chong

A DUTCHMAN was jailed for 16 months on Monday for uttering a bomb threat on board a Singapore Airlines plane and kicking a cabin crew member.

Eduard Gerard Jacobus, 37, a dredge operator, pleaded guilty to uttering the words 'terrorist'', 'bomb'', 'blow up the plane'' and threatening to blow up the aircraft on the Perth-bound flight that was taxiing to the runway at Changi Airport last Sep 29.

A Community Court heard that Jacobus, a transit passenger, was very drunk when he uttered the bomb threat. He had stood up and was gesticulating.

A cabin crew tried to calm him down and get him back in his seat when Jacobus kicked him.

The aircraft returned to the departure gate. The rest of the passengers disembarked and were subjected to another round of pre-board screening

The plane eventually took off after a four-hour delay.

I really feel sorry for the rest of the passengers (4 hour delay because of a drunkard!!) and especially for the crew member who was kicked.

seriously how dumb do you have to be to mention any of those words on a plane. Getting drunk in the airport/on-board is one thing but be nice, get on board and pass out.

Makes me wonder how did he even get drunk before the plane even took off. Too many drinks while in the terminal?

Or in the lounge. It isn't that surprising that some passengers are already inebriated by the time they board.

You'd be surprised to know that one can do which he will not in normal circumstances

It can be really annoying having a disinhibited drunkard seated near you. Horrible if they throw out. And quite intolerable if they become abusive and trigger a 4hr flight delay.

I would gladly support any move to bar the obviously drunk from boarding a plane.

Not sure where the confusion is from, it's very easy to get drunk if you want to!. Apart from the bar or lounge in the airport, he could have been drinking all the way from wherever he came from, possible AMS in this case.

Mentioning those words on a plane, or at the airport, these days is asking for (big) trouble.

It just reminded me of my BKK-HEL flight last week. We left at 0910, which you would think means less chance of people being clattered than the other daily flight that leaves at midnight. However, as we were in the queue for BP checks, there was a crash and a comotion and this big bloke at the front fell over. As ground staff rushed to pick help him up I caught a glimpse of his face and he was absolutely clattered. His mate was the same but he could still stand up, just.

To be honest the amusement didn't last long as I suddenly realised I had a 40 minute connection at HEL, realised this guy was surely not going to fly and they were going to have find his luggage. But 10 minutes after I boarded we got the 'boarding completed' message, the doors closed and we were away early. No idea whether he flew or not.

He shouldnt have been allowed to board in the first place. I thought it was illegal to be drunk on an aircraft?

                      Sometime is while onboard.
I do not think SQ limit the number of drinks that passenger can take?
But I do understand Airline has a right to stop passenger to go onboard if he is drank.

                        +1

I ask the same question, why would they allow him to board? He passed through multiple checkpoints - security check at the gate, agents scanning BP after security, FAs checking BPs at the aircraft door, none of them determined the pax was drunk?
