SQ would prefer to fly SIN-PVG-ORD or SIN-PEK-ORD.

2. Currently no direct flights between YVR and CTS.
3. KIX and NRT / HND is near enough to travel by train.
4. YVR and CTS is near enough to use A330.
5. SQ seems like they are introducing routes with no competition e.g. DME - IAH, BCN - GRU.

2. True
3. Not really. I think people would rather fly into KIX & NRT/HND than land in CTS and take the train
4. True
5. Precisely. However,- CTS is not a hub.
- Neither is there much O&D traffic between CTS & YVR. Do you see many Japanese from Hokkaido flying to YVR? Or Canadians flying to CTS? Especially business people flying in premium cabins?
I'd like to see ORD too.

- it doesn't need to be a hub in order for SQ to fly in. I'm not sure if FUK and NGO are major hubs, but both flights seems to be doing fine. In fact I'd think that CTS being the major airport in Hokkaido is a hub for the island.
- Yes, having spent 5 years in YVR, I can say there are many Japanese from Hokkaido flying to YVR and vv. There is a big Japanese community in YVR and many of them are from Hokkaido. Business class passengers included.
Rather than compete with existing airlines which will affect yields, wouldn't it be better to open up new markets? I think ORD is a good idea too but unless SQ intends to operate nonstop, chances are it will have to do a stop somewhere and ORD is very well connected with major cities in the Far East and Europe, so competition will be stiff.

I'm not sure if CTS is a feasible destination with the airspace restrictions for international flights - http://www.mlit.go.jp/report/press/cab03_hh_000109.html. Also, can anyone confirm that YVR still has curfew restrictions for jet aircraft?

* CTS to Hakodate - about 3 hours
* Hakodate to Hachinohe (Limited Express) - another 3 hours
* Hachinohe to Tokyo (Shinkansen) - a further 3 hours
* Tokyo to Osaka (Shinkansen) - yet another 2-3 hours
It's going to be very expensive and will require an overnight stay somewhere.
I can't see this being popular at all.
(Having said the above, I did exactly that last year. Flew into CTS on CX. Overnights in Sapporo, Hakodate, an onsen near Hakodate, Matsushima (near Sendai on the Shinkansen line to Tokyo - for 1 of the 3 supposed most beautiful views in Japan) and Tokyo before arriving in Osaka. It was with a Japan Rail Pass but people are not going to buy that just because they want to get to TYO/OSA and fly into CTS.)

What about BKK?
I'd like to see SQ come back to YVR. It is such a great gateway into the Pacific Northwest including SEA and PDX.Le jour de Saint Eugène, en traversant la Calle Mayor...
