  • A380 Y Upper Deck - Emex Row

    Fellow SQ talkers...

I've just booked a redemption flight for early October and will flying the A380 SIN>MEL on the upper deck. However the only upperdeck seat I could get was in row 74 where the storage bin's don't open.

Was wondering if it's worth paying the extra $50 USD for emergency row? I'm by no means tall at 5' 10" but curious as to your suggestions.

The SQ Seat planner is showing as a relatively full flight at this stage, I don't have any status with them if that changes anything.

    Cheers

6.5 hour flight, while it's annoying that you have to pay, why not, you get guaranteed legroom and space to get up and stand without bumping into people.

While you get that you may get irritated by people standing infront of you stretching their legs while having a chat in your own guaranteed "space" .

Mark your territory -- set up a First Class ottoman with your 20" rollaway.

Indeed Have previously done just that (albeit with a laptop bag) in 81A, highly recommended and well worth the fee IMHO for the comfort it offers.

Technically you're not allowed to have bags on the floor next to the emergency exits, but unless you're a PITA then a blind eye tends to be turned (YMMV of course). No bags allowed there whatsoever during takeoff and landing of course.

amg: It is definitely worth the legroom. USD$50 is pretty much only AUD$50, a small price to pay for 6.5 Hour worth of comfort.

Now... which one should I "mark" as my territory? (Inflammatory Post Alert) Which is the best Suite seat?

Well I've pulled the trigger and paid for it.

Some of the review aren't to favourable but looking forward to a little peach on the upper deck after doing 8 days of motorbiking around north-west Vietnam. Trip report will come later this year

Do be reminded Row 71 has no window access though

Yeh that was the only thing that annoyed but it's night flight that I've done a few times before so doesn't phase me too much.

Yep, definitely not allowed during takeoff and landing.
Didn't know that it is technically not allowed during flight cruise (bags on the floor next to emex).
I recently had to do this on EK regional J, on a bulkhead row not emex row though. My 20" Tumi is a much better footrest than the J footrest.

To me, 3A & 3F are the best seats in the house for traveling alone.

1A & 1F: least private, slightly viewable from stairs
                    2A & 2F: less private
                    4A & 4F: possible galley noise

I recently paid the $50 to sit in 71A, I really enjoyed it and will most def do it again.

                      SQ238.

i recently flew sydney in Y class with my partner and requested for the emergency row seats to be given to us for free, we got it.
We both put out cabin carry on in front of us to rest our feat and lie down....but still sucks for me, I can't sleep, and as you all know the economy class seats on A380 has sucky recline.....I then decided to just relax and sit on the floor to play with my ipad.....cabin crew was shocked and told me i cant sit on the floor! LOL (I did the same with emirates but no problems)....I obliged and sat on my seat again. IDK, just for me personally I can't sleep on their new A380 and 777-300 economy seats, the recline is pathetic. I still prefer the old 777-200 economy seats......I basically swore to God that I'd fly business class if I want to sleep the next time!
