But unless they also introduce it to SIN, you'd still have to spend 6 hours in economy flying between SIN and NRT.All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

Any word on what TG is doing with pax who have confirmed tix for after the cancellation? I'm holding a confirmed Y ticket upgraded to C with ROP miles for November on JFK-BKK. If they keep LAX, I could possibly do that. Or I could route through somewhere in Europe, if TG will reaccommodate me in confirmed J on another airline for the transatlantic legs.

I haven't heard anything about my August BKK-JFK C award flight yet, but I made a backup BD award reservation BKK-SIN-LAX on SQ followed by UA LAX-ORD just in case.

Thai Airways International Exits JFK, Reduces LAX, Disposes of All A340-500 Aircraft
The New York and Los Angeles routes would lose the company around 4 billion baht ($120 million) a year without the cutbacks, said Mr. Apinan.
... forcing the airline to terminate its direct Bangkok-New York flights from July 1 and to cut flights to Los Angeles to five a week from seven, he told reporters.
Apinan said it would be difficult to sell the long-haul aircraft as record oil prices are resulting in many airlines shifting to more profitable short- to medium-haul routes.
"(Besides New York) we'll continue to operate all our existing routes, but we may consider cutting a number of flights with low bookings on a case by case basis," said Apinan.

"As of July 1, Thai Airways will not fly to New York because of high fuel prices. We have enough passengers, but the high fuel prices have put the airline in a difficult position," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Thai Airways will maintain its direct flight to Los Angeles, which will be the carrier's only remaining US destination, the official said.

Ah, TG finally bows out after months - even years - of rumors.
Wonder how much oil prices will have to rise further before SQ also exits the ULH market. After all, with only 100 seats per aircraft on its A345s, there's dedinitely a limit to how much SQ can continue to raise fares for its all-biz flights.Last edited by EWR; 7 June 2008, 05:18 PM.

From: Thaiair.com Press Release
On 6th June 2008, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) held a Board of Directors’ Meeting at THAI’s Head Office, chaired by Mr. Chaisawasd Kittipornpaiboon, THAI’s Chairman, with the following results:
1. Flight Operations between Bangkok and New York
Effective as from 1st July 2008, THAI will cease flight operations between Bangkok and New York due to the continual surge in oil prices.
2. Restructuring of flight operations to Los Angeles
THAI will reduce direct flight operations between Bangkok and Los Angeles from 7 flights to 5 flights per week, utilizing A340-500 aircraft type until September 2008. For THAI winter schedule, THAI will operate flights to Los Angeles via Osaka, Japan, utilizing Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft.
Currently, THAI operates daily flight to two US destinations, Los Angeles and New York, utilizing Airbus A340-500 aircraft.Last edited by vincent0720; 11 June 2008, 12:10 AM.

If THAI's BKK-EWR route is unprofitable, then why would Malaysia Airlines be able to maintain its KUL-DUB-EWR route? I mean, even though THAI finds BKK-EWR unprofitable, they could still cut frequencies and add stopovers, not exit altogether.
