Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue have applied to government regulators to codeshare their trans-Tasman flights. Government approval is likely to take about 6 months.
Frequent flyer points will be awarded on trans-Tasman flights. Unfortunately Star Alliance members will not be able to obtain frequent flyer on domestic Virgin Blue flights within Australia. Love to see Virgin Blue as a member of Star Alliance to counter QANTAS position in the Australian domestic market. However, this may be difficult to achive given that Tiger flies some domestic routes.
