  • Buying *G Status (Possibly with Miles)?

Does anyone knows if there is such a scenario where I can use my own miles to up my status, say from Elite Silver to Elite Gold? It might not necessarily be SQ, but Thai's ROC is also OK?

Is there even such a thing? Cheers.

You can buy BD silver. Ask a BD Gold with over 55K miles to buy you one for 16K miles

Just realised that I posted this in the wrong thread. Mods, please feel free to move this and I do apologise for the inconvenience caused.

9V-JKL, thanks for BD, but as my miles these days are mainly accumulated from credit cards as opposed to Air Miles, I was wondering if there is any possibility of "buying" status from either Thai ROC / SQ's KrisFlyer...

No is the basic answer to this (although there maybe other exceptions like the BD example). Most airlines reserve status for customers who actually fly. That is why they separate mileage and status points.

You can buy one from US Airways, however I think it is only at certain periods of time, about December/January

            Thanks E-Aviation. Heading your lead, I found the following;

            http://www2.usairways.com/en-US/divi...preferred.html

Effectively, from what I read, I can buy *G Status by paying US$2.2K.

Only second rate airlines sell status.

UA has Pass Plus program which you can purchase for status. It used to be US$10K for *G but I think it has increased. Not sure about current price.

I don't know how status can benefit you if you don't fly enough to earn it?

I didn't know *G could be bought for $2.2k usd, but that link certainly seems to say so! Any catches (apart from the 7.5% tax)?

I agree. Seems like a lot to spend if the benefits are accrued on very few journeys. Unless inix or his/her friend anticipates travelling a lot more frequently after this year?

While I used to do a fair bit of intra asia-european trips, I now do mainly inter ASEAN trips. Something like SIN - SGN. I probably give SQ a decent amount of money yearly, probably more than I fly SIN - CDG, but I don't get EG these days.

At around 800+Miles per sector, even maintaining my ES is pretty difficult. I wasn't actually thinking about using cash to buy per se, but I have a very healthy amount of points accumulated in my credit card (around 300+K) which I'm prepared to let go (say 50K?) to get back my EG status.

One thing led to another, but I would honestly not pay US$2+K for this as it would not make sense. If I'm that desperate, I would probably rather pay for the unlimited Priority Pass.

Well if you really wanted the *Gold, it's all about topping up, and so even if you have just 1 status mile, you can get it at 1.3k

If you have 1 status mile, you need 49,999 more miles which is 1.3k
