  • CO Operated UA Itinerary. upgrade?

    Hi there,
I'm considering to buy an economy itinerary entirely marketed by UA but basically operated by CO (4 sectors out of 5, including both TATL flts).

Being interested in banking the miles to BD for requal, I'm just curious to explore if there's a way/option to upgrade to biz class for outbound or inbound, as well for domestic flights only or for TATL.

I don't hold any status within CO FFP. I'm simply star gold with BD LH and TG.
I have also some miles (about 50K) on UA but as base member.

Any suggestion or idea is appreciated.

    p.s.
Itinerary booking class is S (I don't know how it maps to CO).
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

I don't think you have any option other than op-up, I am afraid. You can only use partner miles to upgrade Y/B, two of the highest, fares. S is a rock bottom fare. CO may sell flat rate upgrade if load is low on premium cabin, but you won't know until you get to the airport.

    This may help:

I don't think the *A Upgrade would work either, as it stipulates that "Only flights marketed and operated by the same airline are permitted."

I did exactly that (LHR-EWR-LHR with 20 hours in NYC). It was actually rather pleasant and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Thank you John for the link.
I really appreciate your frank opinion.
            I would go for that.

But LHR-EWR-LHR is rather less than 14,000 BIS miles in Y, no?

Your itinerary sounds brutal to me, Luke. I hope you don't have to work immediately upon getting back.

it's much more like FRA-IAH-SEA-SFO-IAH-FRA, landing in FRA at noon with onward connection to MIL in the evening on a separate ticket.

You are right! It's only about half. A classic case of not engaging brain (enough) before writing.

Kiwi.... I've a great respect for you, but I cannot think of myself doing a similar thing in Y.

Nor can I any more. I'm dreading my upcoming flights in Y which are only 6 & 4 hours long, with added redeye bonus to compound the misery, and on low cost airline rather than full service. I never thought I'd see the day this happens.
