  • Flying UA. Advice needed.

I'm currently jet lagged in SFO.

Arrived on SQ16 yesterday. Full in F.

Flying UA SFO-DEN tomorrow ( first time in 40 years I'm flying UA! ).

Received my itinerary by email from UA.

They asked me to print a copy and put it inside my checked bags.

Is this standard operating procedure or only for DEN?

Wondering whether to repack my bags, spread my belongings around several bags

Any other advice to help prepare me for thr flight?

Is your UA email itinerary from UNITED-CONFIRMATION@UNITED.COM?

I've just looked through my United flight confirmation emails and can't see anything about putting a copy inside checked bags. Am I missing something?
    My itineraries - YVR-SFO-LAX-LHR-FRA-SFO and YVR-ORD-LHR-SFO-SEA.

I think the US based UA flyers would be in a better position to help since I'm also new to UA myself.

What is there to prepare for the flight? I was scared silly from reading all the nasty comments about UA on SQT. But when I finally took the flights, nothing!!! The FAs were all so nice, just like BA but with a different humour.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Jet Lagged you know!

The fact that they ask me to put a copy of my itinerary in my checked bag suggests to me that they are in the habit of losing one's luggage.

That's how I took the email to mean.

Statistically they aren't any worse than anyone else about baggage, perhaps it is a TSA requirement (I have never been asked this). Too bad about flying the unfriendly skies...

I fly on UA regularly, never have a problem with lost checked bags nor did anything like putting itinerary in checked bags. I don't think it is a TSA requirement, unless it is new. Even if losing luggage, it should still have the original luggage tag as well as your own tag to identify the owner.

            It's not TSA thing.
It's just a recommendation from UA and you are correct that it's in case of lost/delayed luggage.
UA is no better/worse than any other US airlines in lost luggage.

Well got all my bags OK.
And UA met all my expectations.
The crew exceeded them. Friendly skies indeed.

Trivia I picked up from limo driver who drove us to Vail.
              • DEN is newest airport in USA, opened 1993.
              • Over budget because they couldn't get baggage system to work properly: a lot of lost bags
              • System was stripped out and a new one installed

Yeah, the automated baggage system there was a disaster.
