  • United Follows Delta in Tying Miles to Revenue

    http://usat.ly/1hEbRQi

United Airlines is making a sweeping change to its Mileage Plus frequent-flier program, saying customers will soon earn miles based on the fare they pay, not how far they fly.

I'm curious. With airlines in alliances, what happens if you're accruing miles using a different frequent flyer program (ie. Flying United and collecting UA miles on a Krisflyer membership)?

If you're crediting the miles into KrisFlyer then this whole issue is irrelevant as you'll still earn based on distance and class.

The number of miles you earn will depend on the program which you're crediting the miles to, not the airline you're flying. In your case, you'll have to take a look at SQ's partner earn rates to determine how many miles your fare class will earn you.

Similarly, if you're redeeming UA miles for SQ flights, you'll have to check UA's redemption chart, not SQ's.

Many airlines already has similar kind of implementation.
eg. SQ eco class, if you are on offer price, you get 50% of miles and can only credit to Krisflyer and not *A partner. Promotion ticket may be less then 50% or none.
CX, promotion ticket get 10% of the miles only.

UA is directly tying the miles earned to revenue; you are discussing the tie to pricing.

Is there a different? May be you want to check UA web site again. (I say similar kind of implementation).

Maybe should come back to the conversation once you actually have a grip on the topic. Yes, there is definitely a difference.

Correct! Which has nothing to do with:

Think you missed the meaning of "similar implementation" completely.
Before that, you get ZERO credit for certain ticket class you travelled with SQ and many airlines.

It's YOU who is not grasping the meaning. They are not similar at all.
