At more than double the size and with nearly as many members with the letter A as OW I don't think they'll be matching them in airline numbers any time soon. And as most people rarely fly with many in both alliances it doesn't really matter that much anyway.

It's not a surprise. Due to some issues, due to the joining of Avianca/Taca, the merged entity is not allowed to be in Star or something like that.
