  • Avianca in Brazil

In case nobody else noticed (...me included until today), Avianca in Brazil is not part of Star Alliance. Only international Avianca flights in and out of Brazil are part of the Star Alliance network.

Shame, as there are some nice domestic fares to connect from GRU to SDU to get home... and their schedules out of SDU and GIG are similar to TAM.

For now will be sticking with TAM for domestic travel in Brazil until they most likely leave Star Alliance some time next year.

O6 was not part of the deal - not till a little further down the road.

I love em - great little airline and Star Alliance or not, i prefer them to G3 or JJ.

As for JJ leaving *A to join LA in OW..... i wouldn't be so sure as yet. Might be the other way around (you read it here first )

That would be good if LAN were also to join Star Alliance... I thought that Chilean antitrust authorities ruled in the LAN-TAM merger that the combined company couldn't join the same alliance as AviancaTaca.

One thing is for sure, nothing will change for a while.

Yeah, I agree I have been more than content with the short hops in Brazil with Avianca, not so difficult to surpass JJ services... but as I always fly in and out of GRU with SQ, the Star Alliance benefits like extra luggage and business check-in are very useful with the domestic connections.
