  • Safety videos on other airlines

I know that the issue of SQ's new safety video might have been discussed somewhere already. But just wanna bring up EK's new video which in my opinion much interesting than SQ's. EK certainly set a new standard. Who knows? SQ may follow just like EK had its suites first!

So you probably should have put this in the "Other Airlines" forum...

too much fantasizing about SQ 744's returning to SFO perhaps?

Agreed. It is a very well done production, the best I have seen by any airlines so far. It has this mondo 21st century feel to it, which I liked the most. No cabin crew's demo involvement whatsoever. It gets the message across in much less time.

The video also comes in bundle. This is the intro video for ICE, produced by the same firm.

I must be missing something in this thread...

A safety video or safety demonstration should be designed/performed so that pax have a brief understanding of what to do in an emergency!

I didn't realise that it was like the Academy Awards... Yes, the production values in the EK video are higher than those of SQ but the same message is still conveyed perfectly well - NO SMOKING IN THE LAVATORY!

LOL, any other time it would seem odd to see people getting worked up over a safety video that most would ignore

Great video by EK, this one will set the standard for awhile to come, I'm sure!

And no, I doubt SQ will re-update their latest video just to take a shot back at EK...

                I agree.

Pax to travel agent: 'I prefer to be on SQ. They have the best safety video.'
Pax on a travel forum: 'The experience was all the more memorable because the safety video was the best I've seen.'

The notion that SQ would be in an arms race to provide the best safety video is very amusing.

Well done EK nonetheless. To SQ: we'd like our memorable melody back.

I was wondering what the fuss is all about but having now watched it, I don't find EK's any better than recent ones from NZ, DL etc.

I guess that's a lesson learned. As this is a discussion board, you are more likely to provoke attention and comment if you state why you found something interesting enough to start a thread on, rather than merely stating that something exists ('There is ...').

Well i dont have anything i want to discuss regarding this. I just posted it for other to view and comment should they wish. I wasn't trying to provoke anything really. I made that link to my post so mods can merge or do some housekeeping or something.

Precisely that the safety video is always being ignored, so I guess it might be good to make it more interactive to "make" people watch it! I think in times of emergency, most people wouldnt know what to do.

Just because the video is engaging doesn't mean it's remembered in times of stress. I venture to hypothesize that the percentage of pax who'd remember what to do in an emergency situation is the same with a stodgy video as with a flashy one; it's the cabin crew who determine the outcome in those situations.

Personally, I feel the safety videos are more an instrument for branding. If it's nondescript, it adds nothing to the brand. If it's memorable (e.g., the old SQ melody; the current BA melody), it conjures up the associations the airline brand links to, and enhances the pax experience. Is it a deal-breaker, i.e., would it determine whether you fly an airline or not? IMO, no. And that's what determines whether a bottom-line obsessed, oops, focused airline management like SQ's will do.

                            Just a hypothesis, ok?
