Indonesia has long resisted allowing foreign budget carriers in.

Tiger's success in breaking into the market comes after it was designated a "boutique airline" by regulatory authorities.

It will have to offer enhanced services such as free beverages on a new boutique service named "harimau", which is the Indonesian word for "tiger", on their Indonesian flights.

Currently, the only Singapore low-cost model allowed into Indonesia is Valuair, which has not been termed a budget airline there.

Tiger is finalising its flight schedules and fares.

Channel NewsAsia understands flights are expected to start within the first half of this year.

Now I know why Valuair serves drinks and cakes or bread rolls on its fligths to Indonesia.
