  • Anyone flown Etihad or Egypt Air in Y?

Anyone flown Etihad or Egypt Air in Y, specifically, SIN-(AUH)-LHR on Etihad and BKK-(CAI)-LHR on Egypt Air? The Etihad planes (A332 and A345) look very new, and Y class looks almost comparable in pictures (dare I say it) with the SQ's A380 and 77W Y class. Ticket prices also cheaper than Qantas/BA. Not sure about Egypt Air though, the reviews for them are pretty poor-average online.

Just looking for a few cheap ways to fly into LHR, would be better if by *A. Atm, probably will go with TG for a few hundred dollars more, maybe stopover, and with some miles..

    Cheers.

I flew EY Y from FRA to AUH and back to MUC.
Seat and service is ok. TV screen amazing but not the selection (only average).

About A332, i must say it depends on the specific acft you get: the older have armrests between seats completely moveable. So if you are on an empty flight, u can get an entire row for you and get a rest better than if you were in C.
Some of the newest have armrest which cannot be moved.

    Cheers

There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

Egyptair is a member of *A. Reading the reviews, I think I'd pay a bit more to fly in comfort though... TG isn't too bad.

Interesting note about the amazing screen but average selection, as I actually had not factored the latter into consideration. Too used to SQ and QF excellent AVOD IFE.

The new A330-243 cabin pictures look really great, compared to the older A330-202 (actually not that old since it's around 2003-2004 I think).

Yeah. I was initially more focused on Etihad as a cheaper alternative (just over $900+ one way), but only considered Egypt for a fleeting instant because of the miles. My main intention is to fly TG atm ($1150+), but all their 747 Y class has no IFE! Even if I upgrade to business (standby option from airport desk, can't afford outright ex-SIN ), there is a 1/3 risk that BKK-LHR will be serviced by a non-retrofitted 747 with a very poor J class with no personal IFE! Risky risky.

May have to bite the bullet and just fly SQ ($1,450+), or do Qantas/BA and forego the miles....

MS (Egyptair) has some cheap fares (in business class), but is a dry airline.

At the end of the day - you won't die flying Egyptair. But for that long a journey I'd rather pony up a little more and fly in comfort on SQ/QF/BA or even TG (delete as appropriate based on your personal FFP affiliation). I'm guessing you're flying ex-SIN? QF/BA aren't that cheap ex-MEL.

You might also want to look at BA World Traveller's Plus. Now that premium economy has been removed from the QF/BA JSA due to the vast discrepancy in product, there are some fantastic deals to be had with BA WTP in T class (premium economy saver fares). Not v sure about ex-SIN though.
