TAIPEI: China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan's leading international carriers, said Saturday it has cut its monthly flights by 10 percent to combat rising oil prices.

CAL has cut some 100 passenger flights and about 50 cargo flights from June.

"High oil prices have imposed great impact on CAL's profitability. The flight reductions will continue until oil prices fall to an acceptable level," CAL spokesman Bruce Chen said.

While the cuts have impacted most of CAL's routes, flights to Europe remain unaffected "as fares of the European routes are in favour of the carrier," Chen said.

Due to rising fuel costs, China Airlines posted 2.97 billion Taiwan dollars (97.7 million US) in net loss for the first quarter to March after recording a 2.52 billion dollars net loss for 2007.

The reduce or cut routes are TPE-LAX, TPE-DEL, TPE-PNH.
CI has already cut TPE- Houston route.
TPE-Seatle is in the list of cut routes.

Which would be cut and which reduced? Would have tot SQ's exodus from TPE-LAX would help CI somewhat...
Help make this article a better one!

As everyone knows Mr. Ma Ying-Jeou has won the presidential election of the Republic of China, and the National Party has taken back the domination right of Taiwan from the opposition Democractic Progressive Party.

The Nationalists want to create a better relationship with the PRC, so both of them have been fixed that there will be week-end direct flights flying from Taiwan to China and vice versa from July this year.

As a result, not only the America-Taiwan route will be reduced, the newspaper in Hong Kong reported from China Airlines says that the HKG-TPE routes may also be reduced by half after the commence of the China-Taiwan direct-flights.

Yep, Yep. We'll see TPE- Shanghai, TPE- Bejing...etc soon. Well, it's kind of off the topic. Since every airline is cutting TPE-LAX, the Taiwanese travelers have to go to Shanghai to go to USA?
