  • Interlining between non-allied airlines on separate tickets: how does it work?

Trying to figure out options for my dad's first taste of winter in December (with a stopover in HKG at the end of it to acclimatize him to higher temperatures ), and TG has an attractive C fare HKG-ICN. This option would mean I'd buy a separate CX ticket MNL-HKG.

How does this interline thing work? If CX has an agreement with TG, would they tag our bags straight through from MNL to ICN (2+-hour gap in HKG, which I'd rather not spend passing through HKG immigration to claim and recheck our bags), despite the separate tickets?

They'll check your bags through even on separate tickets - I'm sure CX and TG have an interline agreement.

      Great. Thanks!

So, assuming I go with this option, I just show the TG eticket to the CX checkin agent at MNL, and then at HKG show the luggage tag to the agent at the TG transfer desk?

Yeah. That's all you need to do Maraming easy!

I try. All yours for a low fare of $0.00 and no fuel surcharges either.

Yes, you get the answer already. Should not be any problem doing CX and TG on separate tix. Of course not all airlines in the world are willing to do the same. Thus case by case should be looked into. As an example from my own experience, AC from YVR would not interline with any airline if on separate tix.

Just make sure you check if either TG or CX have any self imposed restriction like our UK's own BD.

Wilst we are the subject. Can you interline between SQ and CX?

It seems anything is possible from Changi as I have interlined from SQ to Non Partner / Non Star Alliance. Good on ya, Changi airport.

Doesn't that speak more to SQ's extensive interlining agreements?

Or is that just SQ at SIN in particular?

I'm pretty confident that most major carriers have interline agreements with each other. I've yet to experience a problem interlining bags between non-allied airlines thus far.

SQ MEL has even issued SIN-AMS KLM BP for me. Same (KLM-issued) ticket of course.

Now don't ask me what I was doing on the latter carrier.

Probably true if the tickets are on the same itinerary. But, for example, have you tried through-checking on separate tickets from BA to a non-OW airline? I think BA won't do that, based on what some friends have experienced.

Recall that I won't have a single itinerary.

Fortunately, that issue doesn't seem to apply to CX and TG.
