  • Bangkok Airways - Siem Rep to Bangkok

    Hi all,

We will be heading to Thailand, Malaysia and Siem Rep next month.

Most of my travel will be with Airasia and Firefly (I don’t know how I am going to sit in a F27 for 2hours between Phuket and Penang!!!).

I am trying to get some reasonable flight between Siem Rep and Bangkok on the 29th March, but all I can get are flights with Bangkok Airways (note two of us flying).

    Flight Itinerary
    Date Departure Arrival Flight Validity
    29 MAR 2008 09:20 Siem Reap 10:30 Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) PG902 M Fare
PG = Bangkok Airways FT = Siem Reap Airways International
    Total Price
Passenger(s) Fare per Person Airport Tax per Person Total
    2 Adult USD 118 USD 0 USD 236
    Insurance surcharge USD 2 /person/segment USD 4
Fuel surcharge for international routes USD 20 /person/segment USD 40
    Total USD 280
    (THB 9,240)

I actually think that USD280 is really expensive for 1:10min flight. Do you think that I am just getting to comfortable with low cost carrier pricing?

Are there any other alternatives that would be price competitive? I suppose that Bangkok Airways pricing is due to supply and demand at work……

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

What about making a stop at Phnom Penh before flying to Bangkok? There are more airlines (e.g. TG, FD, TO, U4) that fly to Bangkok from Phnom Penh.
We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.

I have been looking at this flight too, and I got the same price quote. But I guess this will actually be the cheapest you can get. Making a stop at Phnom Penh will actually turn out to be more expensive, especially if you fly interline. I haven't checked on this, but you might like to route through Singapore. Jetstar is offering one-way fares to Siem Reap (from SIN) at S$48 + taxes a piece

Just completed a SIN-REP-BKK-HKT-SIN trip; about a week ago.

        SIN-REP on Silk Air (non-stop)
        REP-BKK on Bangkok Airways
        BKK-HKT on Thai
        HKT-SIN on Silk Air

The Silk Air flights (in BC) were great, on time and good service.
The Thai flight (in BC) was ok. Had a seat in the First Class section of a 747-400; although the service remains Business Class.

For the REP-BKK sector; I am afraid you have no choice at all. You shall have to book PG between REP and BKK.
I agree, it's a high price for a short trip! Almost a monopoly by PG. (But you do get a boxed meal on this sector!!)

When I took this flight on 23/1/2008. PG had problems with a few of their planes.(apparently, quite a common occurrence. )This resulted in many cancellations.
M flight( PG 906) was delayed by over 2 hours.
A last minute plane change meant that we were going to be flying on a swiss registered MD-80, an airline called 'HELLO'!!??? ....operated on behalf of Bangkok Airways.
On boarding, there was complete chaos. The plane was totally jammed full.

Pure Shores, this is pretty much the going rate. When I flew it a couple years ago, it was something like $90US/person.

Cool, I'm willing to pay the price now considering there are no cheaper options and taking the time it takes to transit via adother port.

I can't seem to get the Bangkok Airways webiste to actually work and process my booking.

Any suggestions on a travel agent tha would process the booking?

I'm thinking of doing a trip in late August but thought it's quite steep for a 1 hour flight.

                  Thanks
                  Where to where?

If you're going to more than one destination other than from BKK to REP, you may opt to take out the Discovery Airpass. But if you're only doing a point to point return, then I'm afraid that's it.

You may of course opt to fly the looong way via KUL on Air Asia.
