  • Virgin Blue announces new long haul carrier

    http://www.smh.com.au/news/travel/v-...043163190.html

V AUSTRALIA, hopefully in service before nov 2008

thank god the monoply that qantas has on that route will face some competition - however it cant be marketed under Virgin Blue due to SQ's stake in the name of Virgin

    article found here on that
    http://www.smh.com.au/news/travel/vi...043173366.html

why cant SQ fly that route without having to go via SIN its a disgrace - i kno that they pushed for it a couple of times and thats why i prayed for QF to become privatised but it didnt grrr

oh well more competition the better though

It's simply 'V Australia.' They can't use the 'virgin' tag at all.

      great news
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

Virgin Blue announces new long-haul airline

DJ has finally anounced the name of its new long haul operation as V Australia. See attached article.

        http://www.smh.com.au/news/travel/vi...043173366.html

According to the article it is seeking approval to operate up to 10 flights per week to the US (either SFO or LAX) ex SYD using new B777 aircraft. Each aircraft will carry a distinctive logo incorporating a red tail and the Southern Cross.

I know what to expect when DJ starts operations on either of these routes.

Virgin Blue has apparently applied for & successfully registered the name Virgin Australia, so chances are good that once SQ sells it's stake in Virgin, V Aus will be re-named.

I wonder what config they would be put in. DJ being an LCC would suggest a very high density configuration, but with DJ becoming more features aimed at higher yielding passengers (FF scheme, premium economy etc.) I think they would use a cabin more akin to their distant cousin Virgin Atlantic. Business, Prem Economy & Economy. Would give QANTAS a run for their money.

Also, there planned fleet seems rather small. Any reason for this?
