  • Through-check in at LAX (SQ to AC)

Hi guys, would appreciate any advice on through check-in and connecting in LAX.

I will be arriving in LAX on SQ12 at 1325 on Suites and got a tix to Vancouver on AC at 1645 in Economy. I think there is sufficient time for connection.

    1. Will I be able to check my bags all the way to YVR or would I need to collect my baggage in LAX and check-in?

    2. If my bags are checked through to YVR and so I will only need to collect in YVR, will AC charge me for baggage? Will my baggage come out earlier with SQ priority tag?

    3. Will I be able to go to the lounge in LAX since I fly inbound on Suites but connecting to Y on AC? I have no KF status at the moment.

    Thanks for the advice!

You will arrive into TBIT at LAX, go through immigration/passport control, collect bags (regardless of how they are tagged), and go through customs. After exiting customs, there is a bag recheck area. If the bags are checked through, you can leave them there. However, my SOP is this situation is not to leave the bags unless there's a representative of the airline operating my next flight so that I can verify on time status (and perhaps rebook) before the bag is gone and I'm committed to the flight. In my case, I've always had to change terminals land side and do TSA security at the new terminal anyway. If there's an AC staff member in the bag recheck area, OP should be able to check the bags here (and get a boarding pass if needed) for the next flight rather than taking them to the check in desk if the bag hasn't been checked through by SQ.

      Thanks MSPeconomist.

Do you think I'll be charged for baggage by AC if SQ checks me through all the way to YVR?
