  • Emirates expansion seems to never end...

It seems every week I see a Business Traveller article announcing yet another new Emirates route, increased frequencies, or whalejet upgrade. Buenos Aires, Rio, Barcelona, and Lisbon amongst the new routes.

They clearly have many aircraft, and deep pockets... compare to Gulf Air which are announcing cut back on routes.

And it looks their A380 will start flying to Amsterdam as of August 1

    http://www.telegraaf.nl/reiskrant/11...sterdam__.html (article in Dutch)

While LCCs' collective motto seems to be turning air travel into cheap-as-a-bus travel, EK seems bent on bring the Double Decker Bus to as many destinations as possible.

I'm personally not a fan of the A380 (neither EK's nor SQ's), so I could care less. I'll be impressed if and when EK starts a DXB-MIA-MEX route

Besides, I am partial to the EK main fleet crews

Well they did order 93 aircraft so might as well use them where they know they will be filled !!

Nice to be able to see the A380 in AMS.

Emirates adds Lisbon as new destination

DUBAI, UAE – Emirates is setting its sights on the land of Vasco da Gama by announcing flights to Portugal from 9th July. The airline, further extending its European reach, will start a daily service to Lisbon in the south west corner of Europe, just six days after launching flights to Barcelona in neighbouring Spain.

It's a wonder how EK can make a 17.5hr ULH flight to Panama City viable, while SQ can't seem to work out the inefficiencies to LAX or EWR/JFK.

I should imagine a number of those will replace the early A380's.

Not good for Singapore Airlines but good for passengers like me flying out of Singapore as it will free up some demand from transiting India passengers on this popular route.

Won't the soon-to-be relaunched SQ21 retake the title of the longest direct flight, weighing in at 19 hours? Easily beats the projected DEL-SFO of 17-18 hours and the 17.5 hours of EK's flight.
