      • Emirates to take delivery of Boeing’s 1,000th 777

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is nearing the milestone of its 1,000th B777, with Emirates set to take delivery of the aircraft in March next year.

Boeing says assembly of the B777-300ER aircraft has commenced at Boeing’s factory in Everett, with a ceremony held to mark the start of production.

Emirates currently has 95 B777 aircraft in its fleet, the most of any carrier, and the milestone aircraft will be the airline’s 102nd 777 when it is delivered next year.

United Airlines was the launch customer for the twin-engine B777 back in 1995, and Boeing has taken a total of 1,295 orders for the aircraft from 64 carriers.

        • Jetstar rolls out iPad on flights

In-flight entertainment has been taken up a notch with the introduction of iPads on board Jetstar's flights. The low-cost carrier held its inaugural iPad flight on an A320 from Auckland to Melbourne on November 8, where passengers were offered to try out the tablets for free.

This option is now available on selected Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft serving routes longer than two hours, including Jetstar’s trans-Tasman, Australian domestic, and short- and long-haul international services. The rate for hiring the iPad, subject to availability, ranges from A$10 to A$15 (US$10 to US$15) for the whole journey. Jetstar's A320 aircraft will have 24 iPads available for hire.

Perhaps the boss has been doing too much and ignored the financials at his airline.
