  • Upcoming Trip Report (SIN-PVG-NRT-ICN-NRT-BKK-SIN) on SQ, ANA, UA, OZ, TG Business

After lurking for almost 2 years on both FT and SQTalk (and learning ALOT of tips and tricks), I'm going to first create a placeholder for my upcoming trip In a way, this TR will be dedicated to everyone who contributes to these forums - I've managed to attain 1K for the first time this year as well as DL and AS Gold, so to all who share their knowledge so openly on the forum, here's a beer to u!

    SQ828 (SIN-PVG, 21st Dec)
    NH960 (PVG-NRT, 21st Dec)
    UA891 (NRT-ICN, 22nd Dec)
    OZ335 (ICN-PEK, 25th Dec)
    TG615 (PEK-BKK, 25th Dec)
    SQ973 (BKK-SIN, 26th Dec)

Will update as the trip gets close but if there's anything anyone wants me to report specifically about, please feel free to post on the thread and I'll try my best

    Happy holidays!

Personally, I am interested what food is served on UA894 as I will be travelling the same route next year. I do hope you will get a taste of OZ's new Quadra Smartium seat on OZ335. Have an enjoyable and luxurious vacation!

      It's OZ334 & OZ333, ICN-PEK-ICN, from 7/12/2010, another route, ICN-NRT-ICN on OZ104 & OZ103 also have the Quadra Smartium seats.

Thanks for your info. Rerouting my ICN-PEK flight to 333 instead for the new seats. Longer stopover in PEK but I hope its worth it

My only concern is that TG615 might be on the old 747 config. They occasionally swap out the new 747 but its purely luck.

So many flights, should be fun, but will you actually get time to check out the countries?

You mean there is life beyond the airports??? Surely you jest...
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...

Finally have time to start on the trip report, so here goes!

Sampling the various Asian Airlines has always been my wish, but being based in the states (mid-atlantic region) for Graduate school, the only airlines I usually get to sample is either UA/US or CO. Opportunity struck when I found a three week break and cheap airfare to head back to SG to visit friends and family; and immediately, I started planning to see if I could plan a short trip in between using my UA miles. I could easily redeem a round-trip between US and Singapore in C or F but I was saving up for a nice trip for my entire family upon graduation coming December so 30,000 miles was about the max I was willing to spend. After many phone calls to the award travel desk, all the flights were ticketed and I was ready to go.. and thus began the long wait for the first day to come

My final segments came up to be as follows:

              SQ828 (SIN-PVG, 21st Dec)
              NH960 (PVG-NRT, 21st Dec)
              UA891 (NRT-ICN, 22nd Dec)
              OZ335 (ICN-PEK, 25th Dec)
              TG615 (PEK-BKK, 25th Dec)
              SQ973 (BKK-SIN, 26th Dec)

My plan was to be able to try out the SQ's regional C, ANA's 767-300er regional C product as well as OZ's new C product. I also had a short stay in Seoul to visit some friends who were studying there.

              Day 1 - SIN-PVG-NRT

I took a taxi to Changi and checked-in at about 5:30am. Next, I headed over to check out the SKL which was amazing compared to the usual lounges I get to experience in the states. The food selection was pretty good and I settled on some porridge. It was pretty quiet at this time and the lounge was perfect for a nice quiet breakfast.

After SKL, I decided to check out the SATS lounge beside which had a more "open" concept. Food selection was slightly worst as compared to SKL but nothing to complain about.

Soon, it was time for boarding and I headed straight to gate A16.

Looks like it's going to be a pretty empty flight. There were only 4 people in C and when I looked back into the Y cabin, many people had entire rows to themselves.

The cabin was pleasantly decorated with Christmas decorations which was a nice touch.

              Pre-flight champagne.

Soon, after takeoff, it was time for breakfast. I had BTC-ed Nasi Lemak and was looking forward to it Champagne was constantly refilled and my glass was never empty.

The seat beside me remained empty throughout which was nice.

                To be continued..
