  • Heading back to reality: CX & KA in Y from SIN-PVG

Hi everyone! I am 13 years old and this is my first ever trip report, so comments are appreciated to make my reports better. Thanks!

This report covers my trip from Singapore to Shanghai with a stopover in Hong Kong by Cathay Pacific and Dragonair in Y. My family chose CX and KA as their fares were much cheaper than other airlines. After a long holiday in Singapore, it was time to go back to Shanghai for school.

    Flight number: CX736
    Aircraft type: A330-300
    Aircraft registration: B-HLL
    Flight time: 3h 50min

Check-in at terminal one was quite long even though there was only a few people waiting in line. We checked-in at the newly-renovated part of terminal 1. In my opinion, the newly-renovated design is much more stylish than the old one and it also looks a lot like terminal 3.

Immigration was a breeze and we were soon airside. We were a bit hungry, so we went to the food court located on the second floor. It had quite a nice selection of foods from Singapore and it also had Subway and a pool bar.

After the filling meal at the food court, it was time to head to the gate for boarding. We were running a bit late, so we had to rush. The gate was located at the far end of the terminal, at the newly extended part, so walking there took about 15min. Nevertheless, we arrived at the gate in the nick of time.

After passing the security check at the gate, I got a glimpse of the aircraft. *sigh* It wasn't the aircraft with the new products onboard. CX should at least send some of their A330s with their new product to singapore...

We were on board at 9:56

We were parked next to a CX B772, also heading to Hong Kong at a later time.

    Old school seat controls:

Note the Channel button on the seat control. Damaged but still usable.

A few minutes after boarding, the purser came on the P.A.
"Would all ground staff please exit the aircraft for departure."
This was the sign that we were pushing back soon.

Pushback occured while the safety video was being played. After pushing back, the pilots started the engines and we started taxiing to runway 02C.
Along the way, there were numerous SQ aircrafts parked at the gates.

We also passed a Jett8 Airlines Cargo B747-200 with one of its engines missing. Does anyone know what happened to this plane?

A cup of Apple Juice. I always drink apple juice on flights.

The meal tray. The choices were chicken rice and pasta with fish. (FYI, I hate tomatoes). I wanted to have the chicken rice but they ran out of it when the flight attendants reached our row, so the flight attendant gave me the pasta.. with tomato sauce. I didn't take a picture of the pasta as it was really disgusting for me.

I should've just asked for a meal in business class... haha

There wasn't anything on the IFE that I liked, so I watched the clouds pass by slowly...

After a few hours, it was time for our descent into Hong Kong.
Speedbrakes deployed partially to slow the plane down for landing:

The landing was one of the hardest landings I've ever experienced. Our plane went down hard onto the runway, bounced up again, and touched down again.

We had a short taxi to our gate

And this concludes part 1 of this trip report. The next part includes my short flight to Shanghai from Hong Kong on Dragonair. I'll also find a way to upload my takeoff and landing videos in a fast way.

    Comments are appreciated! Thanks!
P.S. Anyone knows a better way of uploading pictures than this way, because the pictures won't show if I enter the URL of my picture into the 'add picture' button. (Visitors cannot see my pictures.)

    Thanks again!

Heading back to reality: CX & KA in Y from SIN-PVG (Part 2)

Hi everyone! This is the continuation of my trip from Singapore to Shanghai. As the Chinese New Year holidays are about to end, it is time for me to head back to reality.

After disembarking the aircraft which took me to Hong Kong, we had to go to the transfer room to go through another round of security checks before we could proceed into the departures area.

            Sistership B-HND parked beside us:

            B-HOX. Looking strong and mighty.

The staff at the transfer area were very friendly. When my younger brother told us to take out our boarding passes for our onward trip, a staff praised him and kept saying "good boy" to him. Very nice staff indeed!

After the security checks, we proceeded to our gate.
B-HYJ will take us to Shanghai today

As we still had plenty of time before boarding, my brother and I went off spotting aircrafts. Hong Kong International airport has one of the best windows to take pictures of airplanes!

            Japan Airlines B767-300

As I was about to take a picture of this aircraft, the friendly captain waved at me! We waved back and it really made my day. This aircraft was going to Nagoya.

            Note the captain's hand.

Hong Kong International Airport departure area

Soon enough, it was time for boarding. We had to queue up for about 20 minutes as there were lots of passengers on that flight. As we were queuing up, the ground staff checked out boarding passes to check if we were boarding the correct flight.

I always like to sit behind the wing as pictures like this would be nice.

15 minutes after boarding, we commenced our pushback and started taxiing out to Runway 7R.

This picture is one of my favourites:

Took off and ascending through the thick clouds

              The cabin of this A330-300

After the seatbelt sign was turned off, the flight attendants started to serve the meals, with special orders being served first.

On offer was Beef with rice and I think… Dim Sum. Desert was Haagen Dazs ice cream!
              I chose the beef.

After the meal, I played with my iPod for a while. No PTVs on this aircraft…

Sneaking a shot of the galley with the flight attendants too busy to notice me.

The flight passed uneventfully and we started descending towards Shanghai very soon.

Speedbrakes deployed partially to slow the plane down for landing.

              Shanghai hiding underneath the clouds

The landing was firm and the plane kind of swerved left and right a bit. After turning off onto a taxiway, our plane followed a “follow me” truck. I only noticed this when the truck drove off after we arrived at the gate. I wanted to take a shot of it but it drove off too quickly… awww….

Not sure why we had to follow the truck. Maybe the lights of the taxiway signs are not working?

We taxied to a gate at terminal 2 and the engines were shut off.

The usual rush to collect the carryons occurred and we waited for about 5 minutes before we could disembark the plane.

And this concludes my first ever trip report. School is tomorrow and at least I have something to talk about with my friends, the hard landing at Hong Kong and the meal on the first flight…

Thanks again to Mr Kyo for helping me with the pics.

Good work Maxie773! Man I could never write like that when I was 13... Wouldn't have known an Airbus from a Boeing
God must have been a ship owner, he placed the raw materials far from where they are needed and covered two-thirds of the earth with water...
