  • Weekend TR: Pangkor Laut Resort

Just returned from a superb Pangkor Laut Resort trip...it was simply wonderful.

    Lumut Office
Upon arrival at the Lumut office, your luggage is quickly taken away whilst formalities (like card guarantee, package inclusions, etc) are quickly settled.

When the time comes, staff will escort you to the ferry, even stopping the cars while you cross the road! (sidenote: for those who don’t know, Lumut is a town on the main land where ferries go over to Pangkor. For those going to Pangkor Laut, there is a separate section of the Lumut jetty where a speedboat awaits!)

    Ah...the right place!

As you arrive, staff members are already waiting for you with a cold towel and refreshing drink. While you relax at the many sofas, they will explain about the resort, and your dining options, etc. They can also assist with spa reservations, and other enquiries you may have about the resort.

Our receptionist, Kyohei, was extremely friendly. After the introduction, he escorted us to our Hill Villa.

    View from the Hill Villa

This villa type is not for everyone- Hill Villas are an uphill (albeit short) walk to the lift lobby, and have many steps to climb up and down, depending on where your villa is. Hence, if you prefer something closer to the pool or restaurants, the Garden or Beach villa may be for you. Back to our Hill Villa. Similar in config (from what I was told) to the Garden Villas, they have nice views of the gardens, rainforest and sea (due to its high location. Again, more climbing) The rooms are elegant and tastefully done. I especially like the polished wood and marble finish, goes very well with the “rustic luxury” theme. The villa was clean, although not overly so. The large balcony featured a sofa set, and recliners for relaxing. The villa was quiet and peaceful, not a peep of generator sound, traffic or anything else. Very peaceful.

    Dining at the resort

As you are "stuck" on the island, you only have hotel restaurants to choose from. Dining was part of our package.

You can choose from Feast Village (classy open concept kitchen restaurant), Royal Bay Beach Club (by the pool), Uncle Lim's (dramatically pearched on rocks) , Chapman's bar (by the Emerald Bay beach), or an even more expensive (in our case surchargable option) Fisherman's Cove.
Another classy venue if you're flush with $ will be The Straits.

Here are some snapshots of food.

Food looks good but how did it taste?

One cousin grumbled about the awful food.

Another checked out a day early because of the disappointing food.

Admittedly that was 10 years ago but that kinda scratched Pangkor Laut off my Must Go list

But it looks great in your TR. Thanks for sharing

Fond memories of my holiday there 2 years ago I love the privacy there, as they say (IIRC), 1 island 1 resort.
            Cabin Crew, takeoff stations...

the food was very good- it wasn't excellent, but then again it depends on what you ordered. Some dishes tasted better than others- just like any other restaurant. all of them were well presented, tasted fresh and let's just say I wouldn't mind seconds (or thirds!)

during breakfast, the buffet spread is superb- I especially liked the juice station. no pre-bottled juice here!

              i wanna go back!

Thanks Toffees- you'd be glad to know that I was opening your TR before my trip and also during my trip- some of the stuff we ate at Chapman's looks the same (don't suppose they vary the menu often?!) -- I wipped out my phone and started opening this site to load the TR & photos of the food before I ordered! (good 3G there btw haha)

freddo, am glad i did "inspire" you to do a TR on PLR....anyway, how's the resort ? when I was there last year, it has started to show its age and wear and tear is beginning to appear on its furniture and bedding

                      Toffees,
Indeed, now that you mention it, some of the furniture (i.e. wooden floors) was showing some wear and tear- strange thing is the wooden parts in the bath look brand new- even the marble on the walls were great- I suppose they must be doing some minor touches here and there.
Other than that, its a fab place- i wouldnt let this deter me from staying! we enjoyed the 'private' feel of the island...

Ah, this report brings back sweeeet memories of my holiday there two years ago. IIRC the toilet doors were glass then. Were they still glass or did they change it?
