"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are not parking at our gate this evening. It is raining outside and it is very wet. So, please be careful when you step off the plane. This is part of a cost saving measures at Delta and Northwest. We do not have a lot of money because we just came out of bankruptcy, you know", so said the senior flight attendant on the PA system.
That's how my trip started at JFK.
Everyone on the plane laughed at the announcement. I found it very funny as well. Most flight attendants in the US have a good sense of humor and this one is no exception. The flight was NW 2127 from MSP. It was a NW flight on an ex-NW A319 plane but in DL color. The weather was indeed quite wet that evening.
We were then shuttled to a bus gate at Terminal 4 when I spotted SQ B744 that would be my ride home for the next 19 hours or so parking on a tarmac.
The bus ride was uneventful but when we arrived at the gate, we were not allowed to get off the bus because our DL/NW gate agent was not there to greet us on our gate - there was 1 other gate right next to ours which was staffed with DL/NW agent but no that's not our gate so we couldn't go through there. This was just plain stupid and I could hear everyone bitching as we all had to remain inside the bus until the gate agent arrived. It took around 15 minutes before we were allowed to get off the bus and by that time I was really looking forward to my F experience with our beloved SQ.
The good thing was that all DL/NW flights operate out of the B concourse of Terminal 4 which is also the International terminal for JFK. So, the transfer to the A concourse for my SQ flight was a breeze.
Upon arriving at SQ F check-in counter on the upper level, I was greeted by a Thai agent wearing TG ground staff uniform. From the name tag she was wearing that night, she is also a Thai. I found it rather strange that SQ was not using its own staff but rather the staff of its alliance partner for the F class check-in. I remembered vaguely that the last time I had flown this same route in F, I had actually been served by an SQ agent. The 2 C class check-in counters, however, were handled by agents wearing SQ colored tie.
The check-in process went smoothly. I wasn't given an invitation to the Virgin Clubhouse but instead 2 words "Virgin Lounge" was written on my BP. She then asked me if I knew the lounge and offered to took me there. I thanked her and told her not to worry as I knew where the lounge was exactly.
Here is a view of the lounge as I was walking along the back side of the check-in counters..
and as I crossed the walkway towards the lounge...
I also noticed that the LX / *A lounge next to the Clubhouse (which I guessed I had an access to as well as a *Gold member).
