My First Fly NIKI flight from Vienna to Stockholm

Just want to post a short trip report on my own flight from Vienna to Stockholm on NIKI! Niki is always a fascinating airline to fly especially its founder, Niki Lauder, who has founded the old Lauda Air, which merged into Austrian now. Fly Niki also plays on the image of Niki Lauder and its motto is “Passengers first.” The service is really what I have expected and the whole experience is pleasant and all the staffs that I came across were friendly, professional, and impressive. This will be a short report! With a half full flight, I took many cabin and seat pictures, so in case anyone wants to know what an Air Berlin’s A320 interior looks like.

    Check-in:
I used FlyNiki.com to purchase the ticket – very straightforward and I pre-booked my hot meal using the website as well. I wanted an XL seat, but I had to call the Air Berlin call center, which was rather straightforward. The reservation agent was friendly and I got a new e-ticket receipt soon after. I only wish to be able to book the XL seat on line as well. Fly Niki and Air Berlin used Terminal 1A for check-in, and terminal 1A was basically a small building accommodate Air Berlin Group and a few other airlines. There are various check-in options and baggage drop off points. It seemed very simple. The check-in agent was friendlier than your average agent especially in Europe. The agent actually smiled and thanked you for the business. A step beyond the typical European efficiency!

    Boarding:
We used a bus gate this afternoon and nothing much to report! Except my surprise when we approached stand E43, which I found an Air Berlin’s brand new Airbus A320 sitting there (new Air Berlin paint) instead of Fly Niki’s colorful and interesting color scheme. I was disappointed, but what can you do? Once entering the plane, I found a very clean aircraft with row of seats in gray leather. F/As wear short pink t-shirts with jeans and matching cap, and were greeting passengers as they boarded. After everyone was more or less settled, they came by with newspapers and magazines. Unfortunately, most of them were in German, but at least they were complimentary, which were rare even on main European carriers especially in economy class.

    Plane-spotting at Vienna:
Turkish Airlines’ Airbus A321 TC-JRE to IST as TK 1884, Qatar’s Airbus A320-200 A7-ADE, Austrian’s Boeing 777-200ER OE-LPA to JFK, 767-300ER with winglets – LAY in Star Alliance to Washington DC Dulles and –LAE to Toronto, and China Airlines’ Airbus A340-3000 B-18205

    Flight:
Door closed early at 11:28am, and we headed towards R/W29 immediately. We took off at 11:40am. Flying time was an hour and forty-five minutes and we were at 37,000feet. Descent began at 1:04pm, and we landed on R/W26 at 1:25pm and parked at gate 65 six minutes later.

    Cabin service:
The cabin itself was smart in the grey upholstery, but legroom could be tight on non-exit rows. I estimate the seat pitch is 30-31inches, and exit rows can be booked as an XL seat, which is very worthwhile in my case. Flight attendants are attentive and young. They attended to your every request and were always smiling. Shortly after takeoff, passengers pre-booked the Demel Delicatessen meals were served first and F/A will serve you a drink too. Then the regular service began with a free Club double decker sandwich – Chicken and tomato on white with Cheese & cucumber on wheat, which were generous, and followed by the regular beverage cart. Other snack items like cookies and sweets were sold too. After a quick pick up, the beverage cart returned a second time for those who wanted a second beverage or a refill.

I had the follwing Deimel meal: Viennese Chicken Schnitzel, Parsley Potatoes, accompanied by a Garden Fresh Salad, balsamic olive oil dressing and Chocolate mousse dessert.

Entertainment includes the sky map, which were very detailed and different from Asia and US. Headsets were sold as one euro each pair, and short subjects, including “Just for Laugh” gags, Mr. Beans and an episode of “Friends” were shown – not the most updated episode, but something to pass time.

    Arrival and conclusion:
The flight definitely surpassed any low cost airline in Europe and the service was very impressive. I like the hot meal options and the XL seat purchase options. The F/As were all young girls and very service oriented. They use trays to serve beverage instead of shoving them to your face. Niki is definitely highly recommended to all. I only wish to get on a Fly Niki aircraft (maybe next time). This airline is definitely small and charming and thanks the crew for a wonderful flight.

Nice.....! I flew this exact same route last month, but on a more traditional Austrian airline - from what you're saying here, I think you had a better time than I did, and I was in J to boot.
