  • LX new F JFK-ZRH and ZRH-JFK

I am starting a thread to make the first SQTalk trip report of LX's new first class seats. I am starting this at the Zürich first class lounge and will post pictures once we have arrived at our final destination.

I hope readers will tell me what they would like to see photographed on the return flight if there is anything missing in my outbound pictures.
I am also planning to report my impression of these seats when compared to other F seats, including SQ's 77W and 380 suite class.

I'm looking forward to your report =)

Swiss is introducing new seats on its fleet. First they are coming with the new A330-300. So far they only have one, flying the ZRH-JFK route. Some days it is flights LX14 and 15 and some other days it is LX16 and 17. This Sunday, the new bird was flying as LX17:

I must say I was excited to try the new seats. Boarding was done rather quickly through door 2. We arrived among the first in the F cabin.

I had seat 2D and my friend was in 2G.

From my seat I could see the front of seat 1A.

Oooo..... The seats look sleek! But how it will do in the comfort department?
        Stay tuned folks!

The seat position controls are multiple. There are controls to reach 4 position with the armrest closed and then inside the armrest is a small control touch screen that gives access to full control.

          This touchscreen pulls out

Once settled at seat 2D, I was comfortable and here is a view of the Ottoman.

Here is already some comparison to SQ's 77W:
          • The LX A333 has overhead bins, though they are smaller than the usual size and are only on the outside portion. There are none above the central seats. To me, this is a good thing.
          • The footrest/Ottoman on LX is much further than on SQ as there is not foot well going into the seat in front of you. The result is that, unlike on SQ, I can put luggage under the footrest and yet it will not be encroaching on my legroom as I cannot reach so far forward at floor level. Another winner for LX.
          • The armrests are spaced quite nicely for my size.
          • As can be seen in the picture of the seat controls, the Ottoman can be moved forward and it moves up as well, bringing it to a perfect position and offering a reasonable seat back for a companion to dine facing you.
          • Colors and style are a matter of taste. The LX color scheme is not as warm as SQ's. Some will like SQ's style better, some will prefer the straighter clean lines of LX's seats. The wooden looking pieces are made of a real wood veneer it seems.

            Service on board

Before even leaving the gate, the flight attendant brought us Champagne and a small plate of amuse bouche.

Once we left the gate, we taxied in line behind about 30 other aircraft which means we had to taxi for about 40 minutes before taking off... Such can be the situation at JFK...

After take off, dinner service started and I deployed my table.

It is a very sturdy table and I think it is one of the best (if not the best) table I've head on a plane. It does move forward and back, though there is a strange locking that happens if you push it all the way forward. I had to find the unlocking mechanism underneath it after I had pushed it with all the china wear had been set...

Swiss always has a presentation plate with a paper cover on it.

Personally, I am not a big fan of the paper but who am I to complain?
You will also notice that the silverware is given wrapped in the napkin and you have to set it yourself as you wish it:

Once that is done, the cart with the appetizers comes.

They are all good so I always ask for everything and then some more!

This picture is focused on the eggplant wrap in the front on the left, because it is really delicious! It is filled with a slice of goat cheese and some roasted yellow and red peppers. Yummy! All of the plate goes very well with the Cuvée Louise Champagne!

taipeiflyer just mentioned to me the other day that the Champagne is the only lacking thing on LX. DFP, your opinion?

Cuvée Louise is a delicious Champagne. It's good to discover other great Champagnes besides Dom and Krug.
For what it's worth, some give it an exceptional rating: http://www.tastings.com/scout_wine.lasso?id=178888

No doubt it looks tasty. I was more going after your personal take than anything else.

As I've matured, my wine guy has gotten me hooked on Krug's hazelnut finish, but I do like Salon as well. Tattinger also puts out some nice product. Went to a tasting of theirs a year ago and had a blast going through their entire line.

I also love Krug's nutty finish. And I also find that it has a more complex body than Dom. And finally a beautiful color. I decided to do a blind taste (again) 2 weeks ago on SQ and had no trouble finding Krug better.
But knowing one's favorite, one can still appreciate other Champagnes and I find Cuvée Louise excellent. If anyone has a spare case and finds it not so good, I'll give that person my address and will pay for the shipping!

After the starters came a soup

                        and salad

For those interested, here is the complete menu.

Not as large as SQ's but not shabby either.

Any chance we can see a larger version of that menu?

Hope I don't need reading glasses soon!
