This was an 11.50pm departure. I was expecting a meal service format similar to my outbound 2am flight i.e. breakfast prior to arrival. But to my surprise, supper was served immediately after take-off.

This would be dinner number three for me: One meal at the airport, a 2nd one in the SilverKris lounge, and this one onboard. And this was after drinks and canapes at the business event just prior to heading to the airport. No wonder I have so much trouble losing weight...

For this meal, I picked the Korean braised beef with rice. This was delicious.

Unusually, there was a CSS (Chief Stewardess in a red kebaya) in the Y cabin that day, and she was helping with Y meal service. I asked for a G&T to accompany my meal, and knowing how SQ tended to omit the lemon slice, I explicity asked for a lemon slice this time round.

When the CSS brought it, she smiled and said that she agreed with me that G&T did need the lemon slice! The lemon could not have cost more than a few cents, but the happiness it brought was priceless :-)

After the meal, I shut my eyes and went to sleep. I awoke just as the cabin crew prepared for landing.

Final approach on an early Saturday morning, before sunrise...

We landed at 5:18 in the morning, just a few minutes past scheduled arrival time of 5am.

    This was a wonderful flight.

The seat product and IFE were state of the art, with complimentary wifi for all Krisflyer members. Although it was fairly full, the cabin felt roomy and comfortable, even in economy. Catering was good, and so was the cabin crew.

The SilverKris Lounge at ICN is also one of SQ's nicest, and was a great place to spend time before my flight.

      Final reflections...

It was nice to fly SQ on this short trip to Seoul. Even in economy, these redeyes were pretty comfortable.

I have flown SQ to Seoul over the years, and compared to pre-pandemic times, some elements of service have been simplified, for example, no real glassware in Y (Believe it or not, this used to be the case), and no hardcopy menu or SilverKris magazine.

But on the flipside at least hot towels are back, and there is now free wifi, which really makes a difference. Krisworld remains excellent,

Both my SQ flights were on-time, which I no longer take for granted given recent experiences on Scoot and other carriers.

After landing from Seoul at 5.15am that morning, I headed home, and spent the day in Singapore before flying out the same afternoon, at 5.15pm, on TR 882 SIN-HND, for a family vacation to Tokyo and Okinawa. That trip coming up in my next trip report!

      Thanks for reading!
