  • Scoot Pikachu Jet from Singapore to Melbourne - Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner 9V-OJJ

Hi everyone! Here's a short TR to start the week.

I just flew on Scoot's Pikachu Jet, which operated TR18 from Singapore to Melbourne yesterday.

Prior to the flight, I didn't know I was going to be on the Pikachu Jet, which is currently being used by Scoot to fly on their Pokemon Air Adventure flights to and from Japan.

While this wasn't operated as a Pokemon Air Adventure flight, with all the bells and whistles, and activities on these flights, it was still a pleasant surprise to be on a jet with special livery.

This was a last minute business trip to Melbourne, booked just over a week prior to departure. At this time of year, flights to Melbourne were chock full on all airlines, with just a few seats available at sky high fares. Conversely, the return MEL-SIN leg was wide open, with very low fares available.

TR18 was a 2.30am departure on early Monday morning, on 7th October, out of Changi T1.

I snapped a pic of of the plane as I boarded. This was my first clue that this was not a standard Scoot 787.

The aircraft, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner registration 9V-OJJ, "Pikachu Jet", was about 5 years old, so the cabin interior was still in fairly good condition, unlike some of Scoot's older Dreamliners.

The ScootPlus cabin, laid out 2-3-2.

The first Scoot-in-Silence cabin, laid out 3-3-3. In this first Y cabin, no infants or young children were allowed.

Pokemon headrest covers. Only the Scoot-in-Silence and extra legroom seats on this aircraft had winged headrests.

Pokemon themed decals on the overhead bins.

These blended in well with the overall colour scheme.

My seat was in row 9 of the Scoot-in-Silence cabin. There was good seat pitch and legroom in this cabin, with no underseat obstructions.

Really good recline for a Y seat.

    No seatback IFE.

Wifi was available, but for a fee, and plans were based on data usage, which is a terrible way to charge for inflight wifi. Why not go for paid flat rate plans, or by duration?

Also I could not get the complimentary wifi-based Scoothub flight info website to work.

The emex rows in the next Y cabin.

The nearest Y bathroom was about 2/3 of the way back in the main Y cabin -- a bit of a walk for anyone sitting in the Scoot-in-Silence cabin.

In the seat pocket, safety card, inflight sales catalog, and Scoot Cafe menu.

I had pre-ordered the Laksa as my meal for this flight. I was glad I did, because Laksa was available only for pre-order, and not on the inflight for-purchase menu.

      Hot meals...

      Light meals...

      Instant noodles...

      The alcoholic beverage selection.

Soft beverages and coffee/tea were also available.

After take-off, the cabin lights were dimmed and most folks went to sleep (Some were watching movies on their phones/tablets).

I asked for my pre-ordered meal to be served right away. This was something they were willing to do, and the cabin crew said it would take about 30 min to heat up. For most other pax, they would have their meals about 2.5 hours before arrival (ie like a breakfast service).

I preferred to eat right after take-off, so I could sleep the rest of the flight until it was time to prep for landing.

        My meal as served.

The laksa came in a cardboard box (Similar to SQ's short haul catering). I also received a chocolate fudge cake dessert, and Pokemon-branded cup of ice, and napkin, along with a can of water.

The laksa was very tasty, with generous toppings of egg, fish cake, prawn and taupok, as well as piping hot broth. This was the best thing I had eaten on Scoot in a while.

My only quibble is that water came in a can, rather than a plastic bottle with closeable cap. I didn't drink it all at one shot, so had to balance it in the seat back netting, and which thankfully held it firmly without spilling, so I could sip on it during the flight.

Most other pax had their pre-ordered meals 2.5 hours before arrival, when the meal cart came through.

Cabin ambience was pretty good, although this was a full flight.

          Windows were centrally dimmed.

By then, it was bright and sunny outside. Cabin window shades remained dimmed, though it was possible to for window pax to override it and lighten/darken windows as preferred.

A few more pics of the Pokemon-themed decor...

Pokemon graphics on the engines as well...

It was possible to buy models of this plane, along with other Pokemon branded items.

Rainbow lighting a few minutes prior to arrival.

Arrival in Melbourne at 12.53pm, just a few minutes later than scheduled.

This was my first good look at the plane after arrival. A very attractive livery.

At MEL, pax disembarked only from the 2nd door, which meant that Y pax in the Scoot-in-Silence cabin got to disembark first, before the ScootPlus pax located in front.

Also spotted at MEL, this beautiful Fiji Airways Airbus A350, which had just landed a few minutes prior.

A last look at the Pikachu Jet before heading to customs.

There were no queues at the arrival auto-gates, and with no checked bags to wait for, I was out of the airport and in an Uber to my hotel within 20 minutes of stepping off the aerobridge. A new record for Melbourne arrivals!

Overall, a very pleasant flight on Scoot from SIN-MEL.

I had a nice meal onboard and managed to sleep a few hours in a fairly comfortable Y seat before arriving in MEL just after mid-day.

It was also nice to check out the Pikachu jet, with it's unique livery, as an unexpected bonus.

              Thanks for reading!
