  • Visit to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Centre, Washington DC

    Hi there,

Haven't been posting for a while but I thought I'd share a few shots from a recent visit to the Udvar-Hazy Centre at IAD.

    The main entrance

    Aviation heaven

    Heaven continued...

I never got to fly on her...

The forward landing gear on Concorde

This I think is the Lockheed Constellation

    And this a F-4S Phantom

Probably the most well-known B-29, Enola Gay.

      Another angle of her.

But on to the two real reasons why I journeyed out there - Space Shuttle Discovery. This one actually did make it out to space.

View from the back, all-mighty thrusters

View of the undercarriage - note all the heat-deflection panels. Apparently no two panels on a shuttle is identical.

      Nose of the shuttle.

But there's one more aircraft that left me standing there in sheer admiration at its beauty...

How on earth do they craft those lines?

Ladies and gentlemen, the gorgeous SR-71 Blackbird.
