Know enough to dream in them: English, Tagalog (some coherence even when slightly tipsy)

Know enough to follow the gist of TV shows and news articles: French, Spanish (small chance of coherence after reaching tipsiness)

Know enough to ask for and understand directions: German (no chance of coherence if alcohol accompanies conversation)

There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

English enough to usually waive American TOEFL requirements.
Mandarin enough to pass as mainlander in accent and grammar if I keep it short.
Hokkien enough to use it as my second language during NS.
Bahasa Melayu enough to give directions to taxi driver and order food.
Arabic enough to read simple news articles, count, ask/follow directions, read road names, listen to flight announcements etc.
French enough to read basic stuff, count, and maybe follow directions.
Russia enough to distinguish the alphabets and rough pronunciations, as well as certain well used words and phrases including a couple of the standard vulgarities.

Wow...most of the SQTalkers are indeed multi-lingual

                    As for me...
Nowadays speak: English (with variations like Singlish), Chinese (slightly more China-accent than Singapore-accent nowadays..thanks to the Mainlanders ), Cantonese, and Bahasa Indonesia (note: written only Primary 6 standard..hehe).

Can understand: Hokkien (esp the swear words ), Hakka (enough to be able to converse with my grandma...albeit sometimes mixed with Chinese and Bahasa ), and Javanese.

I used to read fairly well twenty years ago, but speaking is audacious.

Haha same here SQflyergirl! Cept mine is a little different. I don't understand the Hainanese grannies when they try to converse with me at the local coffee shop. But when they yell at me or talk bad at me I know exactly what they are saying and complaining about.

I am fluent in English, Mando, Canto, and Hakka
I know bits and pieces of Bahasa Malay, Hokkien, Hainanese, and French.
I am working on: Singlish, Korean, Japanese, and Thai
